Legendary Corvette designer Larry Shinoda put his personal touches on the appearance of this 1991 ZR-1 that’s now on the market on Bring a Trailer.
This Corvette is one of only 14 such cars built by a company named Williams Design and designed by Shinoda, who is perhaps best known for his work with the design of the original Sting Ray.
Coated in Pearl Yellow paint over a black leather interior, this Larry Shinoda/Rick Mears special edition ZR-1 remains in immaculate condition, with only 1,000 miles showing on the odometer.
Paperwork included with the sale includes proof of a final inspection of the completed car in early 1991 by Mr. Shinoda himself.
Shinoda’s custom body work includes four rectangular fog lights in the front bumper along with custom lower body moldings and front and rear spoilers.
As with all the early ZR-1s, this one is powered by the all-aluminum 5.7-liter LT5 engine designed in a collaborative effort of GM and Lotus, capable of 375 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque. Fluids have been changed in anticipation of the auction, by the way.
Other notable features include ZF six-speed manual transmission, three-mode Selective Ride and Handling Package, Delco Bose Gold Series sound system with a CD player, custom 17-inch Elite wheels, air conditioning, removable roof panel, and an accident-free Carfax report.

I remember when these came out in 91. I couldn’t afford one but I did send in for Larry Sinoda’s poster of the car. It along with a few other Shinoda design posters are still rolled up in their original mailing tubes and stored on a closet shelf.

I am particularly fond of C4 Corvettes. I drove a ‘91 for 4 years & have been looking for a ‘95 or ‘96.
I am a C4 fan but in my opinion the rear spoiler on this Shinoda Corvette looks kinda dorky.
