Workers for both shifts at the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green are reporting back to work this Monday following last week’s shutdown due to a parts-related issue. Chevrolet is working to complete the 2022 model year run and it looks like that will happen three weeks from now barring any further disruptions.

Once the assembly line started back up, Chevrolet will cross over the 22700 VIN milestone and we’ll surpass 23,000 Corvettes for the 2022 model year later this week.

The Assembly Plant was expected to wrap 2022 Corvettes on May 13th and now we are expecting it be extended to Friday, May 20th with the 2023 model year Corvette Stingrays beginning Monday, May 23rd.

What’s interesting about last week’s shutdown is that it didn’t appear to be caused by a shortage of microchips. Two different sources told us without going into too much detail was that it was a chassis component that caused the plant to go idle. With many vendors making specialized components for the C8 Corvette Stingray, the production schedule is unfortunately at the mercy of the vendor’s ability to produce parts.

We do note that Assistant Plant Director Nora Roper had a positive outlook for future Corvette production during her seminar to attendees at the NCM Bash last week and she tells us that GM has a whole army of folks whose job it is to work with vendors to ensure the assembly plant is getting the parts they need.

Hopefully, GM and the Corvette Assembly team will be able to get another run of production so that we can put the 2022 model year in the books and move on the 2023 Corvettes and the 70th Anniversary Editions.

  1. I guess I chose the wrong dealership to get on the list to order a new Vette. June will be a year and so far I moved 2 or maybe 3 slots closer to ordering while reading Cioca and Chriswell are delivering new cars at a high rate. Just trying to figure out why the dealership that I have my money isn’t getting any cars.

  2. I hear ya. I have been on now for a year and a half and still crickets. The problem is not really supply, although down from the C7 days. Demand has been through the roof and into the upper stratosphere. Even nuttier for those on the Z06 list – five years is probably about the average wait time, based on the estimates I hear from the dealers locally…
