Corvette Assembly Plant to Shut Down Next Week for Parts Related Shortage

We caught this bad news just as we were trying to wrap up the week. According to our friends at the Corvette Action Center, the Corvette Assembly Plant will go idle next week for a parts-related shortage. The closure is expected to last April 25-29th and the plant will resume operations on Monday, May 2nd.

The CAC provides this quote from GM Spokesperson Dan Flores:

Due to a temporary part constraint, Bowling Green Assembly will take downtime next week (week of April 25) on both first and second shift. Our supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering teams are working closely with suppliers to mitigate further impacts on production and we expect to resume operations the week of May 2.

With the Corvette Assembly Plant losing another week’s worth of production, GM will have to add an additional week to the 2022 production schedule to make up those lost units, which then pushes back the start of the 2023 Corvette Stingrays to May 23rd.

No word on which components are being shorted but whatever it is, you can bet it has a microchip in it.

If you are a Corvette assembly worker with nothing to do next Thursday-Saturday, come stop by the NCM Bash and say hello!

  1. HERE WE GO! AGAIN!
KEITH SHOULD PUT A BANNER AT THE TOP OF THE MAIN PAGE WITH A GREEN LIGHT BLINKING WHEN THE ASSEMBLY PLANT IS BUSY BUILDING NEW CORVETTES –
THEN DOWN BELOW PUT IN A RED LIGHT BLINKING WHILE THE GOOD FOLKS IN BOWLING GREEN ARE TAKING A FORCED VACATION DUE TO SOMETHING MISSING, PLUS BELOW THE BLINKING RED LIGHT, INSERT THE KNOWN CAUSE OF THE SHUTDOWN WITH THE SUPPLIER’S NAME SO WE CAN DRIVE OVER AND VOLUNTEER SOME OF OUR TIME BUILDING THE MISSING PARTS.

THIS SITUATION OF MISSING PARTS ON A NORMAL BASIS IS GOING TO TO KILL EVERYBODY’S SCHEDULE FOR ORDERING THE CORVETTE THEY WANT TO DRIVE, DELIVERY AT A DEALER, MUSEUM DELIVERIES, GETTING THEIR LICENSE PLATES AND INSURANCE, OR JUST PLANNING TO TAKE TIME OFF FROM THEIR EMPLOYMENT TO GET THEIR NEW VETTE AND TAKE A VACATION DRIVING HOME.

I FEEL SAD FOR THE UNION FOLKS AT THE PLANT THAT HAVE TO SIT OUT A WEEK NOW AND THEN FOR THE FUTURE OF BUILDING NEW CORVETTES. THIS MUST BE CRAZY FOR THEM.

WE NEED SOME BETTER SOLUTIONS FROM THE ENGINEERS AT GENERAL MOTORS TO SOLVE THIS ON-GOING SHORTAGE OF PARTS AND MATERIAL TO BUILD NEW VEHICLES.

    THANKS FOR LISTENING.
GO CORVETTES – IF YOU CAN BUY THEM SOON!

  2. I hope our greedy corporations are learning from this manufactured flue to build at home. Wait until we are all EV and China decides to withhold batteries

  3. Ok what the hell is going on GM??? Parts shortages, shut downs, cracking wheels on C7’s, several GM products having unknown vibration problems. hope you get your shit together sooner then later. It’s getting ridiculous.

  4. I have a vett ordered that I ordered on November 27 of 2021. Haven’t heard anything whether my order was turned in or not. I put $5,000 down. Question is will I ever get my car? Car someone answer this question? Thanks Tommy

  5. Are the employees short of wages on these shut downs or do they have something in their contract when they are not at fault? As often as this seems to be happening its going to be hard on some families.

  6. HEY DENNIS AND OTHER CORVETTERS, THIS IS WHAT I WAS REFERRING TO EARLIER ABOUT THE BOWLING GREEN UNION FOLKS GETTING BURNED BY THE CONTINUED GROSS INCOMPETENCE OF GM MANAGEMENT NOT HAVING ALL OF THE ENGINEERING NEEDED TO BUILD CORVETTES AND TRUCKS AND CADILLACS WITH NO DEPENDENCE ON ANY OUTSIDE SMALL PART SUPPLIERS THAT CAN HALT ASSEMBLY OVER AND OVER.

MS. MARY SHOULD SPEND BILLIONS ON A DETROIT CHIP MAKER OR A US SUPPLIER THAT ISN’T CONTROLLED BY A FOREIGN OWNER OR GOVERNMENT AGENCY.

DO WE NEED AN ELECTRIC HUMMER??

HERE’S WHAT THE UNION ASSEMBLY EMPLOYEES GET WHEN THE PLANTS STOP PRODUCTION:
According to the Auto Workers Union, those U.S. employees will receive supplemental pay and unemployment that pays 75% to 80% of their salary and benefits.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE IN BOWLING GREEN.

  7. I have a 2023 on order scheduled to go into production hopefully in May, based on the delays it will now be sometime in June now. Probably will be going to the Bloomington Gold this year without a Vette! So sad! 😥

  8. John when did you order yours? I ordered a 2022 they said I would get a 2023 because of the cutoff of the 2022.

  9. I put $5000 down on a Z 06 we do not even know the sticker price yet thanks to Bidenflation. When GM finally starts building the dam car I can see a shutdown because they ran out of Z’s

  10. I hear you, I did the same that is put $5000 down on a c8 in November 2021 haven’t heard anything.

  11. I was just in BG on Wednesday and Thursday. No mention of a shut down. Nothing going on at the track. Next weekend is the 70th Birthday Bash….guess production shut down will not stop their celebration. Egos never end……..

  12. Tommy, after a year on the wait list my number came up with Mike Furman in early March, since it was so close to end of the 2022 order cycle ending, I just said I would prefer a 2023, so two weeks latter I spec’d out a 2023 and I should have one of the first 2023’s built. I am at order status 3000 and I am waiting on a TPW to be assigned. I am hoping for the best but clearly I know additional production delays are likely!

  13. It’s really bad when the USA can’t build more chips or what ever to keep the corvette plants running. I just want my vette it’s been my dream car since I was a young kid. It will be my first one. Guess I’ll just have to wait . It’s been 5 months . They said I should get it in November or December.

  14. November 2019 deposit, February 2022 order, April 25 build date postponed. If I ever receive a 22 C8 it will likely be July and the car will be a year old before I ever sit down and put 1 mile on it because 2023 C8’s will already have arrived too. But it is all good, I’ll keep it for one year and since I am practically first in line for the Z06, I’ll trade in the 22 Stingray for the Z06 after one year and that will make things all better. To the contrary, at the end of 2021, I ordered the best handmade Mecedes Benz AMG that I could design and it was built in leass than 5 months and shipped from Stuttgart through a war zone to Long Beach in less than 6 weeks. We received it 2 weeks ago. It is my belief that Covid supply chain failures are another action of the tail wagging the dog
