KISS cofounder Paul Stanley has definitely come a long way since he paid $35 for his first car: a 1960 Rambler American.

“I didn’t come from a family that could afford a new car for themselves, let alone help me with one,” Stanley recently told Kickin’ the Tires. “It was completely smashed on one side, and you couldn’t open the door. So when I used to pick up dates at that point in my life, I had to crawl in on the passenger side. I would always park the car so that whomever I was picking up didn’t see that the other side of the car was demolished.”

These days, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee definitely doesn’t have that kind of problem with his newest ride, a historically significant 2022 Corvette hardtop convertible.

Surprisingly, though, he’s already getting ready to auction off the car at Barrett-Jackson’s upcoming 2022 Las Vegas Auction, slated for June 30-July 2 in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, because he feels he “couldn’t do it justice.”

The car carries VIN 001 – a surprise salute and a way of saying thank-you to Stanley for helping Chevy create a custom 2015 Corvette for the 2014 SEMA Show, painted in a custom color he helped the design team create that ended up being very similar to the Long Beach Red that debuted in 2016.

Now, despite the fact that he loves his 2022 Stingray done in a similar red known as Red Mist Metallic Tintcoat, Stanley says he’s offering the car at auction at no reserve. “It’s an amazing car, and having it be VIN 001 is a collector’s dream,” he says. “I want to make it available to somebody who might be able to get more out of it, whether it’s to add to a collection or to drive it.”

After talking with Chevrolet President Mark Reuss and Corvette Product Marketing Manager Harlan Charles, Stanley put together a spec “that played on the C8’s touring and sports car aspects” while also incorporating his favorite elements from European cars. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with taking cues from other cars and embracing them,” he says.

As a result, despite both the Corvette and Stanley known for having bold and exuberant images, Stanley says he intentionally ordered his Stingray to be warm and rich with its Red Mist exterior and Natural interior. “I would rather draw attention from being understated than overstated,” he says. “That’s just my preference.”

Of course, any C8, no matter how it’s optioned, is going to be anything but understated, especially since this one is aggressively optioned with a High Wing Spoiler, black nacelles and roof, and black 5VM side skirts

Stanley says his favorite part about the C8 is watching the top go down. “You breathe in the air and get hit with the California sun,” he explains. “That’s just unbeatable.”

After being involved with the C7 in such a personal way in 2015, Stanley says he didn’t expect the C8 to come out so quickly but is impressed with the new mid-engine offering, describing it as “such a leap forward design-wise” and adding “I have got to give the guys at Chevrolet a huge amount of credit.”

“I want somebody to take this car and do whatever makes them happy with it, to enjoy it,” he says. “That’s really the keyword, I think, for any collector of anything — joy. And for me, my life has always been about the joy I can bring to other people. So here’s a car and a guitar. Go enjoy.”

  1. What a little dick. For a Hall of Famer Roll N Roller to purchase a 2022 Corvette just due to it having a low EIN, that was probably created for him; and then sell it because it belonged to a “celebrity”. What a way for a celebrity to make a little cash! A little sad to see this post and recognize the profit motive derived from “Celebrity”.

  2. Mr. Stanley,

Mr. Stanley: Maybe you can help me out? As an older ‘Vette enthusiast ( have owned 6, have 3 ), I’ll buy it for MSRP and you can auction off guitar :). My plight: 2 weeks ago, local Chevy dealer called me & said their latest allotment of 17 was available. Said we had to show up in person to give $ 2k deposit. I drove quickly & in less than 30 minutes they said allotment was sold out. When I arrived, no “buyers” were there. Respectfully, I don’t believe the salesmen, probably sold them to friends and took credit cards over the phone! Anyone else treated this way from Dealers ?

  3. Ya like nobody else has done the same friggen thing, STFU you bunch of haters. It’s his flippin car. You clowns are just pissed because you’re all nobodies and never would get a chance like this. It is a beauty though.

  4. Hi Paul, my name is Jonathan. I was always big Kiss fan since being a child in the 70s. I have lost track of how many Kiss concerts i have attended. I am confident you don’t remember this but it is one of my favorite lifetime memories. I was a police officer in Houston TX and around 1989 to 1990 i was working security at a small night club where the Red Hot Chilli Peppers were performing and you and Gene Simmons were there without makeup signing autographs. I was assigned to peovide security for both of you. During some down time either you or Gene asked me where the best adult entertainment club in Houston was. Having been there myself i recommended Rick’s Cabaret. Anyway, i still have the autographed picture of you that you wrote a personal message to me on.
Back to your car. After retiring from the police department i went on to have a successful real estate investment career which i am still active in. This had lead me to be able to have a small corvette collection. I have a 62, 66, 71, 93 40th aniv with 1,000 orig miles, and an 07 which are all convertibles. I also have a Ron Fellows Z06, limited to 400 cars, i have car #26 with 800 original miles. I would love to own your car!!! Someone else asked you to sell it to them for MSRP. Well as i stated i have always been a hugh Kiss Fan and i also have a small corvette collection. My offer is for you to sell me your Corvette for $100,000 or MSRP whichever is greater and additionally i will make a donation to a charity of your choice of $50,000. And i would love to get another autographed picture of you as well as have you sign the car.

    Sincerely,
    Jonathan

P.S. I have no intention of ever selling your car; I am also willing to sign an agreement that if i sell the car, you will always have the first right to buy it back.
