It’s deja vu all over again!
Chevrolet has a long history of donating VIN 001 Corvettes and other special vehicles for charity and they were at it again on Saturday at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach with the first retail 2023 Corvette Z06 Convertible offered for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
Not surprising anyone, the winning bid came from NASCAR team owner and Chevrolet dealer Rick Hendrick. He was there live at the auction and his bid at $900,000 came much to the delight of the crowd. He would nod just one more time to bring the Convertible home for a hammer price of $1 million.
The Corvette Z06 on stage was just a representation as the retail versions will start production later this summer. Mr. Hendrick will be able to select all the colors and options for his convertible, and as GM’s Sean Finegan announced during the intro, Rick will be able to build his own LT6 engine for the car and will take delivery of it at the National Corvette Museum. Finally, a one-day private instruction will be offered at Spring Mountain and the Ron Fellows Driving School.
The purchase of the 2023 Corvette Z06 Convertible completes the pairing of the VIN 001 Coupe to the first retail Convertible models. Mr. Hendrick purchased the VIN 001 Coupe for $3.6 Million. That model was specifically a Carbon Flash Black 2023 Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition.
The real winner from today’s event is the Thurgood Marshall College Fund which represents Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominately Black Institutions (PBIs). They will receive 100% of the total amount directly from Rick Hendrick as a charitable donation.

Not sure if it’s funny or sad. The expression on his face is that of a man that has everything except happiness.
If you ever get a chance to see his private collection at his shop, go. It’s impressive.
The struggle is so real
Isn’t he the dealer that sells new C8’s for MSRP but makes you buy some extra bs package for 13-15k?? Must be nice to have cubic money coming out of every orifice daily. I do enjoy the hot women they have putting the SOLD stickers on the cars:)
Ya I’m not sure this should be considered the first “Retail” sale since it’s not even close what a person will really pay since this was for charity.
Sooooo in the article it says he paid $1m. but scroll to next video on this same site, and its saying he paid $3.6m. did he buy 2? what is going on here?
Yes Jim he bought two of them. read the article again. VIN #1 drop top.
@Jim: Mr. H bought the first Z06 coupe for $3.6M at B-J, Scottsdale last January and the first convertible for $1M at B-J, Palm Beach April 9.
