The Indianapolis 500 will get underway on Sunday, May 30th with former IndyCar and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick leading the 33-car field in the official 2021 Corvette Stingray Convertible Indy 500 Pace Car.

Patrick will be driving the Arctic White 2021 Corvette Stingray Convertible with Black and Yellow highlights and the traditional race logo on the door. The Z51 Stingray has the safety lights integrated into the car’s nacelles which eliminated the need for the traditional light bar. It is the first convertible to serve as the Pace Car since 2008.

“I am very honored to drive the Corvette Stingray Pace Car this year at the Indy 500,” Patrick said. “It is even more special because of the past year we have all endured, and it will be so nice to see fans back in the stands. I’m also excited to again be a part of the NBC broadcast team for the race. “I have always loved Chevy vehicles, and the Corvette convertible is such a beautiful car.

Maybe they will let me drive it home!”

Patrick had eight starts at Indianapolis 500 during her career (2005-2011, 2018) and as a rookie became the first female driver to ever lead laps. In 2009 she finished third and today she still holds the record for laps led by a female at 29.

Following her Pace Car duties at the beginning of the race, Danica will then step into the broadcast booth as a studio analyst for NBC’s race broadcast with host Mike Tirico and fellow analyst Jimmie Johnson.

“We’re honored that Danica Patrick will pace the field at this year’s Indianapolis 500,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet Performance & Motorsports. “It’s going to be great to see Danica back at the Speedway that she knows so well, behind the wheel of our 2021 Corvette convertible.”

The Indianapolis 500 will be televised live on NBC with the pre-race show starting at 11 a.m. ET.

  1. BOB — And your problem with Ms. Patrick driving the C8 pace car at the Indianapolis 500 would be what exactly?

  2. I like DANICA but it made me laugh when EMERSON FITTIPALDI said””The only way that DANICA will win a race is if EVERYONE ELSE STAYS HOME”””!

    Screw EMO, DANICA IS HOT!!!!!

  3. it wood be a tough choice which one to drive , but for the fact i have a C8 , I choose Danica. ps-i’m purty dang good behind the wheel but , i bet she’s better than I…..wouldn’t it be fun to find out…harrrharr 🙂 savor life…b

  4. Why?? I don’t care what this has been spoiled brat does. High maintenance bimbo, geez you guys running out of choices?? She may be hot, but she can’t drive apparently. Nobody has her driving for them. And she’s going into the booth?? WTF Why what the hell? I will be watching something else.

  5. Ron Fellows, Jan Magnussen, Johnny O’Connell, Olivier Beretta, Andy Pilgrim, and Oliver Gavin or even Dale Earnhardt, Jr. weren’t available?

  6. Get the Parakeet to drive her fastest C8 around the track. Although Danica is a much nicer looking lady.

  7. It’s all about gender, nothing about driving skills. Motorsports, being the male dominated sport that it is, is attempting to entice other females into the sport, not for social equality reasons, but for profit ($$$). At least she’s female and she knows it and apparently wants to continue being female.

  8. Bunch of haters here. Check out her net worth. All made in racing. While most,of you guys were arguing about what wax to use.

  9. How about someone with racing recognition?? Like past Indy 500 winners. It’s not about hating, just that there are way better choices. I bet Arron Rodgers wouldn’t choose her.

  10. Someone needs to put padding around the track!! She’s going to wreck that beautiful car!!

She is horrible at her job and her wealth is from sponsors. So what, she cant drive and never won INDY.

    #LET RICK DRIVE

  11. Typical reaction from (some) typical Corvette peeps. Yes, they could have chosen lots of others but you might need to get over the fact that the marketing people decided that she’s a good draw and they chose her. Kind of amusing that some gave this choice the power to upset themselves so much. It’s the freakin’ pace car, for Pete’s sake — can you even remember who drove it in the last 2 or 3 years?
