[VIDEO] C8 Corvette Takes On the Big Nasty C7 Z06 at the Drag Strip

We recently told you about a guy who was having a hard time making up his mind whether to purchase a C7 Z06 or go back a generation to a C6 ZR1. He ended up taking the C6 ZR1 and winning a $10,000 grudge match run against a Blazer.

The same dilemma may be facing other hot rodders trying to choose between a C7 Z06 or a C8 Corvette.

Based on the results from this drag race we found on YouTube on the DRAGS channel (Drag Racing and Car Stuff), you couldn’t do wrong either way.

While the eighth-generation Stingray has a lot less horsepower (495) compared to the front-engine Z06 (650), in this particular competition, the newer car wound up taking a narrow decision with a time of 10.899 seconds at 124.22 mph, compared to the 10.95 seconds and 129.17 mph of the Z06.

We don’t really know if any changes have been made to either car, so the results could be tilted one way or another if that’s the case. We’d tend to believe that both cars are stock, especially since the C8 would likely have delivered a time in the low 9s had it been supercharged or otherwise souped up. The time for the C7 Z06, meanwhile, is an exact match for the claims put up by Chevy, straight from the factory.

In any event, it’s tons of fun just to watch these two Corvette siblings duking it out on the drag strip, no matter who had emerged as the winner.

  1. After the first race I was thinking the c8 needed a driver mod. He proved me wrong in his second race. Well done.
