As a young man back in the 1970s, dreaming of owning a Corvette one day, I would watch Alex Trebek’s “High Rollers” game show during summer vacation, just to see the C3 Stingrays sometimes being offered as prizes.

Fast forward a few decades, and the lure of a new Corvette still is enticing contestants, including this week on the longest-running TV game show of them all, “The Price is Right,” with Drew Carey.

The show is celebrating its golden anniversary in high fashion the week of Feb. 21-25, with a 2022 Corvette Stingray among the more than 30 vehicles being offered during “Dream Car Week.”

Many of the cars are “ho-hum,” at least to Corvette enthusiasts, starting with a Mitsubishi Mirage valued at $16,125. But there are some interesting names waiting to be won, including an electric Audi e-tron GT worth $103,895, a BMW 8-Series ($85,995), Maserati Levante GT ($80,895), and a Porsche 718 Boxster ($63,950).

Since the show debuted in 1972, more than 8,400 vehicles are said to have been given away, including a pickup truck a few years ago by a lady from my hometown in Georgia back in the 1990s.

No word on which episode the Corvette will be offered, so we’re hoping that some of our readers will keep an eye out and let us know in the comments section below. Already on Monday, the show set a new record with 12 vehicles offered as prizes in one episode.

By the way, based on a story today by Car and Driver magazine, we’re a little confused about the trim level of the Corvette that will actually go to a winning contestant. We downloaded the promotional photo of a Red Mist convertible from the show to take a closer look at the car, and the name of the file was “9735k-dream-car-week-corvette-1645284264A.” That makes us hopeful that a winner would receive a nicely equipped Red Mist convertible with optional Spectra Gray wheels and black nacelles as shown on stage, apparently valued at $97,350, but the C&D story says the car is worth just $62,145 – which would make it a no-option 1LT coupe. Even at that base level, however, we’d still take the Stingray over any of the other cars on the stage – how about you?

  1. The Price Is Right show offering the new Corvette aired 02/23/2022. It was offered as the prize for making a hole in one and valued at over $98k, according to Drew Carey. Sadley the contestant missed the putt on two attempts.

  2. It was on Wednesday, my wife told me, the game was ” A hole in One or Two”, the golf putting game and a woman had 2 shots at winning it, but failed.

  3. The car was a convertible worth around $98,000 so must have been a 3-LT, pretty well loaded with everything
