One of the recent trends in automotive detailing has been the rise of chemical-based coatings to protect the exteriors of our cars. Most recently, we shared GTECHNIQ’s Crystal Serum Ultra as a long-term solution for those who want the maximum protection for your Corvette’s painted surfaces. But one area I know we haven’t given a lot of attention to is the use of these next-generation coatings for your Corvette’s wheels. If you’ve been waging a war against brake dust, this specialty product from our friends at GTECHNIQ might just be for you.

GTECHNIQ calls it their C5 Wheel Armour (no relation to the 5th generation Corvette!) and it couldn’t be any easier to use. It’s applied by dabbing the product onto an applicator pad and then wiping it over every surface of your wheels, followed by the removal of any remaining residue with a microfiber towel. Once applied and cured, your wheels will have a super slippery feel and brake dust can simply be wiped away. GTECHNIQ says you have up to two years of protection and they suggest adding no more than the single coat during application.

For those next-level detailers, remove each wheel first to clean, prep, and then apply C5 Wheel Armour both on the front and the inner wheel barrel. While the wheels are off, it’s a great idea to use C5 Wheel Armour the same way on your Corvette’s painted brake calipers for their protection as well.

C5 Wheel Armour

The science behind GTECHNIQ’s C5 Wheel Armour comes from the work of quantum physicist Drew Gill who founded the company over 20 years ago. His research focused on paint protection formulas that worked at the molecular level by penetrating and filling microscopic imperfections, and GTECHNIQ’s C5 Wheel Armour is among the formulas developed. Once applied, the coating is chemically bonded to the surface of the wheels, forming a protective barrier against dirt and contaminants like brake dust.

For those that like to do the work themselves, C5 Wheel Armour is available direct from GTECHNIQ starting at $34.95 for the 15ml size or $57.95 for the 30ml. They do recommend the larger sizes for those vehicles with up to 20-inch wheels. You’ll also want to add their PW Panel Wipe for $9.95 which will clean and prep the wheels for the chemical bonding, and a fresh MF1 ZeroR Microfibre Buff Cloth which start at $3.95 each.

This video from GTECHNIQ shows just how easy it is to apply C5 Wheel Armour:

GTECHNIQ C5 is independently proven to outlast other rim coatings. It uses a unique chemical bond to become the functional surface of a car’s rims making them dirt repellent, brake dust repellent, and easier to clean.

GTECHNIQ’s C5 Wheel Armour is made for use by the average automotive enthusiast but if you would prefer to have it applied by a professional, visit gtechniq.com to find your nearest accredited GTECHNIQ detailer.

  1. Ceramic coating wheels is no a new idea! It makes it harder for any brake dust or dirt to collect on C8 wheels. The factory split 5 spoke bright wheels at the easiest to coat and keep clean but You Tube watcher wined about these wheels when the C8 was interdicted even though the engineers made the wheel with barrier of those wheels were made to be easy to maintain at operator level. “Got to sell those after market wheels!”

  2. I have Ceramic coated my Trident wheels my C8 to help my dust brake dust problem. I cannot see any improvement. Would I see any improvement in using your C5 coating? If so what is the difference?
