2023 Corvette Z06 Will Have Temporary 6500 RPM Redline During 500-Mile Break-in Period

When the 2023 Corvette Z06 is handed off to their new owners, they will have to follow many of the same “break-in” rules that C8 Stingray owners have which includes a 500-miles break-in period. What’s pretty wild is that with the additional power of the LT6 V8 engine, the Z06’s temporary redline is the same as the Stingray’s permanent redline.

As most of you already know, when you take delivery of a new 490-hp C8 Corvette Stingray, the tachometer’s yellow warning is set to 3500 RPM and the redline is 4500 RPM and it stays like that until you cross 500 miles on the odometer. Once you do, the tachometer magically resets to a redline of 6500 RPM and you now have the full range of performance available to you with the only other milestone being that Chevrolet recommends 1500 miles on the odometer before tracking your Corvette.

Our friends at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com wondered if the same is true on the upcoming 2023 Corvette Z06 with its 670-hp naturally-aspirated engine. John at the MECF reached out to Chevy’s PR with that question and the quick answer is yes.

When a new owner takes delivery of the Corvette Z06, the tachometer will have a redline of 6600 RPM for the first 500 miles and then will reset to its 8600 RPM redline afterward. Chevrolet still recommends putting at least 1500 miles on the car before its first track date as well.

The Stingray’s Owner’s Manual also suggests that during the first 200 miles, drivers should keep speeds moderate and avoid hard cornering and hard stops. For the first 500 miles, drivers should also avoid wide-open throttle launches, hard stops, driving at one constant speed (or with cruise control set), and aggressive downshifting as well. We assume these tips are applicable to the Z06 as well.

One thing you’ll be able to count on is that owners will continue to share videos showing the exact moment their Corvette’s break-in period ends and the real fun begins!

Back in early 2020, Corvette contributor Jeremy Welborn filmed his 2020 Corvette Stingray’s tachometer resetting after reaching 500 miles on the odometer:
