If Chevy was supposedly taking a huge gamble changing the legendary Corvette into a mid-engine sports car, then they just hit the jackpot.
Take a look at the latest sales figures, and it’s undeniable that Tadge Juechter and his crew have hit three sevens in a row with the new eighth-generation Stingray.
The Corvette commands a whopping 63 percent of the market for Premium Sports Cars, leaving competitors like Porsche 911 (19 percent), Porsche 718 (8 percent), and Audi R8 and Mercedes-Benz SL Class (1 percent each) lying in the dust. Sales are so low for other competitors that they show up as 0 percent statistically – Mercedes-Benz SLC Class, Nissan GT-R, Ford GT, Acura NSX, and BMW i8.
Furthermore, the Corvette bandwagon continues to grow, with year-to-date sales up nearly 53 percent – climbing to 33,041 in 2021 from 21,626 in 2020.
What will the sales of the highly anticipated Z06 add to the mix later this year? These are indeed exciting times for Corvette enthusiasts, and to think, just a few years back, GM was worried that its customer base was growing older and older and its long-time sports car might no longer be viable to young people in today’s market. So much for that concern.

Watch how you use the term ‘older generation’. Someday you will be a member of the old generation.
Would be even more interesting to see total sales per model, not to mention profit margins. I recently read an article that Ferrari makes as much profit selling one car as Ford does selling 908. Devils in the details.

Two ultimate brands were never meant to be sold in high volumes but are visually and symphonically orgasmic: Ferrari and Lamborghini. They are priced as entry level real estate…
One never discusses their demographics…
yet you see these brands in GTD races
A most interesting group of comments . . . Thanks to all who contributed to the conversation.
‘Even though Corvette handily flies past much of its perceived competition when it comes to attractive entry-level pricing, the cost of a C8 is still often beyond the financial where-with-all for the very generation some might anticipate seeing behind the wheel of a C8.
