Okay, let’s get the big elephants out of the room. We know 1977 Corvettes were underpowered compared to many other years, and we know the build quality may not have been all that great back then.

But at the time, enthusiasts didn’t know what great cars were coming down the road in years to come. We just accepted the beautiful cars that General Motors was offering to us, and we were happy to gobble ’em up.

In fact, based on sales, the 1977 Corvette is the second most popular year ever – with 49,213 leaving the St. Louis factory behind only the 53,807 in 1979.

Among those nearly 50,000 Corvettes was this orange ’77 currently up for sale on Craigslist out of the Phoenix, Arizona area.

For the reasonable asking price of $17,500, Santa may soon be bringing someone what appears to be a really nice original Stingray with just 63,000 miles. Based on photos with the listing, the exterior Corvette Orange paint looks great, and the Buckskin leather interior is in the same shape with no work needed.

The car is in “amazing condition,” the seller says, noting that it has also been recently serviced.

With manual transmissions unavailable in the current generation, this Corvette’s four-speed gearbox hooked to a 350 V8 engine will make it attractive to many. We’re not told if it’s the L48 or the more powerful and desirable L82, so a prospective owner will want to ask that question for sure. The difference between the two is 30 horsepower – 180 vs. 210.

The car also is nicely equipped, with power steering, power windows, rally wheels, and four-wheel disc brakes. While some folks may not care for the chrome rear luggage rack, we think it adds a nice look to this body style.

  1. If it was an L-82, wouldn’t it have come with an L-82 emblem on each side of the hood bulge?

  2. The L-82 should have emblems. But the VIN tells it all.
The 5th digit for the L-82 is X in ’77.
    L-48 is L.

  3. This brings back memories for me. My first Corvette was identical to this one but it was an automatic and had the optional aluminum wheels. I got it in 1980 when I traded in my 76 Trans Am for it. I’ve owned seven more Corvettes in a row since then.

  4. Right, it doesn’t have the L-82 hood emblems but it also has the lower redline that the L-48 would have.
