A couple weeks back we had the great opportunity to head west and visit the amazing Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club. This adult playground is the home of the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School that’s available at a heavily discounted rate to all who purchase a new Corvette. It’s way more that, too.

Spring Mountain is located a little under an hour west of Las Vegas. The drive there from McCarran Airport is a spectacular jaunt through the Red Rock Canyon area with towering mountains surrounding you the whole way. Upon arrival, you’re greeted by at the entrance by the Welcome Center. That’s where you check-in and can purchase any of a myriad of Spring Mountain branded items.

The facility currently resides on a 332-acre parcel of land, and they’ve just recently closed on another 600+ acres of land as well. In all, that’s roughly the equivalent of 680 NFL football fields. Onsite you’ll find three sets of condos for guests, 80 garages, three classrooms, two maintenance buildings, a man-made lake, and 6.1 cumulative miles of road course. The race track can be split into multiple variations with the longest version being the longest track in North America. The Corvette Owners School tracks are typically one of the three smaller West, East, or North configurations and cover about 1.5 miles each. Three additional miles of track are under construction right now and even further expansion beyond that could be possible too. In the future, the total track length could even exceed the Nürburgring’s 12 miles.

Once you’re bitten with the racing bug you can head over to the Spring Mountain Showroom where they showcase the latest Corvette offerings in addition to housing used Radical and Wolf race cars for sale. During our visit, the Corvette display had just been updated with the latest 2022 information including the three new colors of Caffeine Brown, Amplify Orange, and Hypersonic Gray. An old school front engine C7 cutaway model remains but will eventually be replaced by a C8. After you’ve got your new racecar, members can take advantage of Spring Mountain’s Arrive and Drive program where you can call ahead and have the staff get your car ready for track duty. Just show up, hop in, and hit the track. How cool is that?

The condos are top-notch accommodations. Much more than a hotel. The suites feature full kitchens with granite counters and tile backsplashes, a full-sized refrigerator, and a dishwasher. The full baths feature even more tile in the standup shower. All rooms back up to various parts of the racetrack to allow for easy viewing of the action. Elsewhere guests can enjoy a small basketball court, a pool, hot tub, full-sized gym, racquet ball court, and a shooting range.

Spring Mountain's pool and spa

Outside the track lies Spring Mountain Estates, a grouping of 80 lots and private homes. Each house is custom-built for its owner and can accommodate racecar, sand toy, or even airplane access. About 50 of the 80 lots are spoken for so there’s still time to snag one if you’re so inclined.

The 8,000 sqft clubhouse is the social hub of Spring Mountain. Inside you’ll find a full bar and kitchen plus tables and couches to seat many, many guests. Flat screen TVs hang from each wall and show a variety of automotive programs. Full locker rooms lead out to the aforementioned pool, hot tub, and gym. The space includes covered outdoor gathering areas as well. Multiple viewing towers are located throughout the property which allow guests sweeping views of the tracks.

The Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain currently has 120 Corvette Stingrays available for training. Cars are ordered through General Motors and they’re prepped and delivered through the local Chevrolet dealer. Each car is broken in on the street for 1,500 miles and then prepped for the track. The Spring Mountain staff prepares each car for driving school duty in-house. The team follows the owner’s manual direction and converts them over to the track wheel alignment settings and adds two quarts of fluid to the transmission. Other than that, and the installation of two-way radios, the cars remain totally stock.

During track duty, each car is inspected after class. Any maintenance items like brakes, tires, and fluids are addressed onsite by the Spring Mountain staff. Heavier repairs and warranty items are handled through the local Chevrolet dealership. The cars’ track life will last anywhere from 7,500-10,000 miles. At that time, they’re serviced and sold locally with full disclosure of their previous lives.

Fully Equipped Garage for Maintaining C8s

The Ron Fellows Performance Driving School can run up to three classes at a time which translates into 400-450 students per month. They offer the Corvette Owners School plus Level 1, 2, and 3 classes beyond that if you’re looking for more advanced training. It’s heavily recommended that new Corvette owners sign up for a class as soon as they take delivery of their C8 and not wait to the last minute. Class spots are limited and there’s only a one-year window to get your class in at the discounted rate. We’re told that the current redemption rate among Corvette owners is the highest ever so be sure to get your class schedule quickly!

C8 Corvette Fleet

In addition to the Corvette schools, Spring Mountain will be offering the Cadillac Blackwing Academy starting this October. Its format will be similar to the Corvette Owners School. They also keep a fleet of Camaro ZL1’s onsite for the training of NASCAR drivers looking to hone their road course skills.

Cadillac V-Series

The Spring Mountain Motor resort is a real-life fantasy land for gearheads. The facility has undergone tremendous growth since 2004 when the current owners took over. It all started with a track, two tents, and some porta potties. As you can see, they’ve now got something for everyone and there’s no end in sight for further expansion. In the future, they’ve even got a hotel and casino in the works. The facilities are top-notch and the grounds are meticulously kept. The staff is more than friendly and genuinely wants their guests to have an amazing experience. Your automotive bucket list is not complete without a trip to Spring Mountain.

Finally, we want to give a CorvetteBlogger shout out to Spring Mountain’s Todd Crutcher and Rhea Miller for tending to us during our visit out there. Your time is much appreciated!

Now we didn’t visit Spring Mountain simply for a tour. Ye ole Detroit Bureau also took part in the 2-day Corvette Owners School and we’ll talk about that in more detail coming up soon. Until then, here is a gallery of the various sights around the Spring Mountain campus.

  1. I was there last February, and it is everything good you’ve heard said about it. Probably the most fun thing I’ve ever done. Staff and grounds are excellent.
