Earlier this week we offered up a Corvette production update that was based on what we hear happening through our dealers and the NCM, and it does look like the rumors we heard about TPWs for 2021s falling to the week of September 13th were incorrect.

Last night, Chevrolet sent out a Consensus update to its dealers and they are saying unequivocally that 2022 Corvette production is now scheduled to start the week of September 6th.

One of the big changes for the 2022 model year is Chevrolet moving Corvette sales to utilizing Average Daily Supply (ADS) as its methodology in giving dealers their allocations. The benefit of ADS is supposed to reward dealers for not only how many Corvettes they sell, but how fast they do it. This change will supposedly penalize those dealers who keep Corvettes for sale at prices higher than MSRP.

Yet, according to this week’s memo, dealers that received zero 2021 allocations will receive one (1) allocation for the 2022 model year and those allocations will come in September and October. If that’s the case, those of you who really want a 2022 should start dialing up those small-town Chevy dealers and asking about their 2021 Corvette sales!

On a serious note, we are still not sure how this is going to shake out as the volume dealers have been allocated very small numbers to start off the 2022 model year, and now Chevy is giving every dealer who sold zero Corvettes in 2021 allocations? Not only is this confusing to us, but for the dealers we’ve spoken with as well.

With today’s consensus, dealers are receiving allocation numbers, and dealers are also under the assumption that another round of allocations could be coming next week as well. Perhaps this slow and steady method will provide more control over production with fears of chip shortages and the Delta variant causing future disruptions, but for now, it’s sort of a mess.

The final piece of news from the dealer memo this week is that Chevrolet says its Build and Price Configurator for the 2022 model year Corvette is expected to go live on Tuesday, September 14th.
