Corvettes on Craigslist: 1973 Custom Vettewagon Needs a Hug

As CorvetteBlogger’s official Vettewagon Ambassador, it’s my sworn duty to present this 1973 example we recently came across on The San Francisco Bay Craigslist.

According to the Craigslist classified, it was conceived by former GM designer by Harry Bradley. After departing GM, he then joined toymaker Mattel. There, he designed 11 of the 16 first edition Hot Wheels. Later in his career, he spent 35 years teaching at Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design.

This unique build took 3 years to complete while tallying up a $25,000 price tag. The seller states that the car is fully documented via several noted magazines like: Volume 4 of Keepin Track of Corvettes, the October 1978 Super Chevy, the Summer 1982 Corvette News, and Petersen Deluxe Corvette an American Classic 1978.

Looking through the magazine images we see a very-70’s looking modded Corvette. The body was finished in a light blue accented by a relatively stock-appearing black interior. Custom chrome side pipes flank each side of the car and a full-width taillight sits out back below the functional rear window. The wagon modification features rectangular windows that wrap up into the roof. Several headlamps were subtly molded into the nose of the car.

Today, the car isn’t quite the same as it was in those old articles. It looks to have been punched in the nose and needs some significant repairs out front. Even though it looks to have been sitting for some time, there appears to still be some life in the paint and chrome. The C3 currently does not run and the sellers says “… but with time, money and the proper restoration this car will be the museum piece it deserves to be. But keep in mind, it is a completed restoration project.”

He also states that the car still retains the matching numbers engine and he believes that the transmission numbers match too. While there aren’t many current photos of the car, the seller shares many of the media images from back in the day. A nod to what this car could be again. He recommends people head to topclassiccarsforsale.com for more info and photos.

Current asking price is $20k or best offer and the seller encourages in-person inspections at his home in the San Francisco bay area.

  1. I think that Harry Bradley did a much better job designing eleven of the first edition Hot Wheels than he did designing this ugly Vettewagon. Total waste of a beautiful C3.
