[VIDEO] TJ Hunt's C8 Corvette Ready for 1,500 HP Engine Install But First He Joins the Flying Roof Club

YouTuber TJ Hunt was one of the first retail customers to take delivery of his 2020 Corvette but it’s been a few months since he’s done a video about the car. Apparently, the modified twin-turbo car was having some oiling issues and so he took it to Late Model Racecraft in Houston where Stephen Fereday and his team put their own turbo kit in it and got it back to running well again.

We previously shared that last bit of news thanks to an LMR video showing TJ’s car on the dyno as well as hearing about some possible future plans about creating a C8 Corvette that could contend for the world’s fastest record that is currently held by Emelia Hartford and her C8 Corvette nicknamed Phoenix.

In this new video, TJ is in Houston to meet with Fereday at Late Model Racecraft to discuss those record-beating plans with a 1500-hp built motor that will also feature some upgraded clutches. Fereday tells TJ that the world record is going to fall saying, “It’s gonna happen…this is what I do.”

Before TJ headed to LMR’s headquarters, he takes his car out for a drive to experience the current twin-turbo build that makes around 700-hp. TJ starts off with a cold-start and then pops the transparent top off the coupe because “if it isn’t raining, the top is coming off,” he says. After picking up a friend, we notice that the roof is back on, but not for long. As they do a pull on a side road, TJ becomes a member of the flying roof club which is captured on video. Adding insult to injury, as they circle back to get the roof which is laying in the middle of the street, a large work truck strikes it and sends it flying again.

  1. Does a guy who can’t remember to fasten the roof on his Corvette really need to be driving a car with 1500 HP?

  2. I could only take about seven minutes of these two fools. A perfect example of “More dollars than sense”. There should be a “Common sense” test for prospective Corvette buyers. Yeah, I’m old; things really were better “back in the day”.

  3. I just watched a few of Hunt’s YouTube’s – pointless, empty and silly are words that comes to mind. None the less, he’s figured out something because almost 2 million people subscribe to his shallowness.

Carelessness can happen but it’s a super dangerous event when it occurs if the driver’s doing nothing but showing off a new toy’s speed, imagine if that top had hit another car’s windshield on a freeway.

As for his C8 adventures, with the apparent attention span of a spoiled child with an unlimited credit card, he’ll probably move on to the next shiny thing in a second or two. Maybe something “practical”, such as a Durango SRT Hellcat or a Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita.
