[PICS] Chevrolet Shares Original Renders of the 2021 Corvette Stingray Convertible Indy 500 Pace Car

The 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 takes place on Sunday with Danica Patrick and the 2021 Corvette Stingray Convertible Pace Car leading the pack to the green flag. It’s the 18th time that the Corvette has paced the Greatest Spectacle in Racing and the first convertible to have Pace Car honors since 2008.

Chevrolet today released the original renderings from designer Adam Barry who was tasked with coming up with a memorable design for the Corvette Convertible Pace Car. In addtion to the renders, we learned that the Convertible model and Sky Cool Gray/Strike Yellow were chosen first and the rest of the color choices were made to compliment the cabin’s 3LT interior. Arctic White with Carbon Flash exterior trim was selected for the exterior while the same Strike Yellow color is used as the trim on the dual racing stripes, as well as on the ground effects, spoiler, and brake calipers for a unified design.

Other interesting design cues include:

• This Indy 500 pace car is the only mid-engine Corvette Stingray to feature the Corvette crossed flags on the rear decklid, in place of a Stingray badge on production vehicles.
• The safety strobe lights are designed into the Corvette’s nacelles behind the passenger compartment, providing a custom touch with full functionality.
• The Stingray silhouette sketch emblem on the side ground effects is unique to this car and was adapted from the original brand silhouette sketch to reflect the convertible shape with a high-wing spoiler.

Adam also designed the Shock and Steel Special Edition Package used on the 50 Camaro Convertible Indy 500 Festival Vehicles and you can see an example of the that as well.

Fans can get a first look at the 2021 Indy 500 Pace Car and festival cars, and hear from Josef Newgarden, 2-time IndyCar Champion on what it’s like to race at Indy during Chevy MyWay: Live from Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 29 at 11 a.m. EDT.

The 105th Running of the Indianapolis 500 begins as 12:00 Noon Eastern Time on NBC.
