Earlier today we got the fantastic news that the 2021 Corvette Convertible would be serving as the Official Pace Car of the 105th Indianapolis 500. We’ve been checking in with various accounts throughout the day and have updated our original thread with many new photos and videos from this morning’s announcement.

One person who is very happy is Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles who “volunteered” to take the car around the historic 2.5 mile track. While he promised to take it easy, he still ventured into three-digit territory on the back straight.

Oh, and if you haven’t heard, this is Corvette’s record 18th time to pace the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. And Doug is more than happy to tell you that his boss Roger Penske has won the Indy 500 18 times! Coincidence? We don’t think so!

As a former Hoosier, the Indy 500 is near and dear to my heart and we are very happy to know that the fans will be able to watch this year’s race live. There is just something about hearing “Back Home Again in Indiana” before the command is given to “Drivers, start your engines!” And as a Corvette enthusiast, there is always a lot of pride to see America’s Favorite Sports Car leading the pack to the Green Flag.

Here’s Doug’s video that was posted earlier this evening to Twitter:
