[VIDEO] C8 Corvette Owner Reports Overheating Issue

We recently caught YouTuber RearWheelDrive as he took his bright green 2020 Corvette to the track and he was able to rip the car down the drag strip with times in the low 11s with no issues reported. Now we are circling back to him as his latest video has two words in the title that caught our eye immediately: Overheating issue.

Matt says he was cruising in Central Florida on a cool 50-degree day and was on his way to meet up with a few car friends for a photo shoot when he says the temperature of his LT2 engine shot up to 240 degrees. Even at night with the outside temps at 50 degrees he shows us the temperature at idle was 210. With the driver’s door open, you could hear the fans on the side-intake radiators were going like mad. Matt believes he may have a faulty thermostat or air bubbles in the cooling system and will be working to track down the issue.

Although this is the first we’ve heard of a C8 getting hot, Matt’s car does have some mods and he notes some recent work on his transmission as well. So no reason yet to be concerned that the C8s have a cooling issue like the C7 Z06 which would go into limp mode during a hot track day.

  1. So he’s working on finding a problem rather than taking it to the dealer? Maybe his mods voided the warranty. Not too bright if so! And he’s already had some “work” on his transmission as well? Necessary work or was that part of the “mods”?

  2. All Corvettes run hot, that’s how they are set up. They build heat up fast and usually stay at a higher temperature. The C5, C6, and C7 ZO6’s I own all run hot, but never overheat. My 1995 ZR-1 is the only Corvette out of the bunch that doesn’t run on the hotter end of the spectrum.

  3. In a later video it seems to have been resolved. There was likely air in the system and it needed to be burped.

  4. The Trans was replaced because it had a leak the deal couldn’t fix. The only Mod he has done to the car is put a cat back exhaust on. The problem with his temps is probably the stat or a fan not working right.

  5. Living in Louisiana, this is a concern to me in the summer since I have a daily driver and drive it pretty sporty all the time. I did have the extra transmission fluid added before I tracked it. So far, haven’t had any issues. It has been at 200 but we shall see in the summer heat.
