Even though no one has yet been able to hack into the C8 Corvette’s ECU, the owner of this 2020 non-Z51 3LT Stingray managed to make a few mods and become the first to run 10.8 seconds on the drag strip, naturally aspirated.

In a post on the C8 Corvette Owners (And Friends) Facebook group, owner Jim says he’s far from satisfied with that time and hopes to drop it even further, despite the fact that he’s already well below Chevy’s official quarter-mile time of 11.2 seconds at 121 miles per hour.

“Fall weather is close,” Jim posted, “and my goal is 10.5 seconds all motor. It is a lofty goal, but I think it’s possible.”

While retaining the original factory cats and NPP exhaust system, Jim added new American Racing stainless-steel headers good for an additional 17 horsepower and 33 lb-ft of torque at peak or 37 horsepower and 37 lb-ft across the mid range. A nice gain for the retail price of $2,000.

He also installed a ported throttle body and intake manifold, added a catch can to cut the oil vapors recirculated into the intake, and did “slight work on the heads” of the stock LT2 6.2-liter V8.

Other key changes were stickier 17×4.5 M&H tires on the front and 18×11 Mickey Thompsons on the rear, on top of F14 monoblock Forgeline wheels.

It all added up to a sizzling time of 10.823 seconds at 125.95 mph.

Let’s see if he can go even lower!

  1. Great time, but he really didn’t best the “factory time”, because he is no longer “factory” with the mods he made.
