Corvette Delivery Dispatch with National Corvette Seller Mike Furman for May 17th

Criswell Chevrolet’s Mike Furman delivers new Corvettes to his customers who come from all across the country to work with the nation’s top individual Corvette seller.

In this week’s Delivery Dispatch, Mike shares some more Corvette history from his days as a salesman at Malcolm Konner Chevrolet when it ruled as the top-selling Corvette dealership in the USA. As far as new Corvette deliveries, Mike shows off these photos of a Shadow Gray 2020 Corvette that visited the service department for the installation of the elusive 5VM Ground Effects kit. And speaking of Corvette history, the throwbacks and vintage photos come from GM’s photo archives. As always, we appreciate those comments letting us know your favorites!

Visit Mike’s facebook page for even more photos and videos of his new Corvette deliveries: CorvetteFurman.

~Next Sunday afternoon should be interesting…The plan is to meet up with Gary Konner just off Rt 95 in Maryland as he just cleaned out his NY home of old Corvette memorabilia, pictures, etc from the Malcolm Konner Auto days. Gary’s Father Malcolm Konner was "the" Corvette dealer as in… the #1 Corvette dealer in the country from the ’60s through 1994. Gary is a wealth of stories and has such a great memory, I believe that I have surprised him about all that I remember from my days (the ’80s) working for his family dealership. The Callaway Sledgehammer originated from Konner Chevrolet in Paramus and after its world record-breaking run, it was sold to the same guy that bought my 1970 442 Convt Indy 500 Pace Car. Enjoy some of the pics/history down below…more to follow.

~As everyone knows by now the Corvette Plant opens up next Tuesday, May 26th. C8 production will proceed to build 2020’s through most likely late Summer/ early Fall. Although there have never been two 2 month work stoppages during a new generation, Corvette build cycle…the 8th generation is well worth the wait. For those that are patiently waiting…stay tuned my friends as the mid-engine Corvette is an incredible machine in every way. I’ve driven almost every sports car on racetracks all over the USA for the last 42+ years and the C8 is by far the coolest ride and easily the best value of any mid-engine worldwide.

**I have downloaded all 47 C8 Corvette Academy GM videos on my Corvette dedicated web site www.corvettefurman.com Click on my web site and scroll down to view, well worth your time.**

~C8 delivery *A local businessman just picked up this 2020 Corvette in Shadow Gray Metallic and our parts department had the very rare GM Carbon fiber exposed weave ground effects in inventory. So the customer had our service department install them this week.

Originating from Malcolm Konner Chevrolet of Paramus, NJ…The Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette Is an American Icon. During "Project Top Gun" in 1988, Callaway’s 898-horsepower C4 set a new record at 254.76 mph.

"Corvette legend Reeves Callaway built the Sledgehammer as a testbed for making streetable, reliable power with turbocharged V8s. But, he also wanted to set a new performance benchmark, commissioning Canadian Paul Deutschman to come up with a low-drag C4 shell known simply as the AeroBody. Callaway’s team took care of the mechanical modifications, which included a fully built 350ci Chevy V8, fed by a pair of turbos running 22 lbs of boost. The resulting 898 horsepower and 772 lb-ft of torque made the SledgeHammer a 254.76-mph Corvette. Impressive from a car that retained its full interior, including power windows and locks, an audio system, electronic air conditioning, and power sport seats, plusa roll cage. What’s more, the Sledgehammer took a 1400-mile road trip from Callaway’s shop in Connecticut to Ohio and back, with John Lingenfelter flooring it midway at the TRC proving ground. Too bad they couldn’t take home Goodyear’s custom tires. The record was set at 254.76 mph, Deutschman continued to work with Callaway for years to come, and the Sledgehammer’s AeroBody saw limited production."

~In 1986 GM/ Chevrolet made 50 Malcolm Konner Commemorative Edition Corvettes…below is a letter and a picture of all 50 behind the Corvette Plant…the letter was sent by the Corvette Plant Manager Paul Schnoes to Gary and family. I have dozens of pictures from their arrival to the dealership and even a few pics out front of the plant from that delivery day…but I had never seen this letter or picture before the other day.

  1. Really enjoyed the addition of captions to the Frank Class section! Keep up the great work, Mike!

  2. Once again, some beautiful work, Mike. My C8 was taken out for a short ride today with the central split carbon fiber flash racing stripe, full length over the Ceramic Matrix Gray Metallic paint over all black interior on an LT2/Z51/Magnetic Ride Control/front axle lift. Clear wrapped and ceramic coated. Currently, 220 miles on the clock as of May 17, 2020. Went by the famous, “Rock Store,” where I saw a group of about 55 motorcycles and their owners so tightly clustered together, that if any one of them has the virus, it will be a miracle if they all do not get it.
