We’ve got February 14th circled on our calendar and no, its not because it’s Valentines Day. This February 14th marks the return of a whole new season of Top Gear USA and if the third season is as good as this teaser video, then we’re in for one heck of a ride!
Watch this C5 Z06 take on a C6 ZR1 and hold its own.
This video – taken at the National Auto Sport Association’s Hunka Hunka Burnin’ Rubber at Memphis International Raceway in July 2011 and found on Pfadt Race Engineering’s Facebook page – features a matchup between those two vehicles.
The result shows that a little driving skill can sometimes match up with big horsepower.
Continuing our recap of the January 2012 Corvette auctions, we bring to you the no-reserve sale of the first Corvette ZR1 to be produced in 2010. First VIN Corvettes have always been a hot commodity among collectors, highlighted by the purchase of the 2009 VIN 001 Corvette ZR1 for $1 million by Dave Ressler. Unlike the first year ZR1, this 2010 Corvette ZR1 is meant to be driven as the first owner put 3,934 miles on the Jetstream Blue sports car.
President Obama can’t resist the allure of the mighty Corvette ZR1 and took the opportunity to take a seat in the 638-hp Carbon Flash Centennial Edition during a visit to the Washington Auto Show on January 31, 2012. The Washington Auto Show is held at the Washington Convention Center and will run through Sunday, February 5th.
The picture was taken by Pablo Martinez Monsivais for AP and posted on The Washington Times.
Thanks to Chris at Zip Corvette Parts for the heads up!
The Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving has named Corvette Racing icon Johnny O’Connell as vice-president of global operations, effective immediately.
O’Connell will oversee international expansion opportunities at the request of Bob Bondurant, who founded the school 44 years ago and has since turned it into the largest purpose-built driving school in the world.
Perhaps it’s only appropriate that a modern-day ZR1 Corvette engine would be placed in the original body style that started the ZR-1 (yes, with a hyphen back then) craze way back in 1970.
We first told you about this monster of a 1971 Corvette in July 2011, and now our friends at High Tech Corvette have put together a video that shows just what the modern LS9 ZR1 engine can do when planted in a 1971 Corvette. The LS9 even peeks out from under the hood through a clear opening that marks the C6 ZR1s.
When we talk about German-based Corvette tuners, the name Geiger would usually come to mind. However, there are others in the land of Bavaria who also take pride in tuning America’s favorite sports car. One such firm is named TIKT and their awesome 758-horsepower Corvette ZR1 is called the Triple X.
Each January all eyes on the automotive world focus on the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. All the major carmakers roll out their latest creations and concepts for the world to see. This year General Motors created a whole new display to highlight their portfolio of products. We grabbed a couple of tickets to the ritzy charity preview event so we could check out all the good stuff before the show opened to the public.
As Christmas quickly approaches we’re sure most of you are busy attacking the malls and online stores like we are grabbing sweaters, gifts cards and such. What if shopping was more fun? Say everyone on your list wanted a Corvette and money was no option? Fact: Corvette shopping is way more fun than regular shopping. To support this we made a list of significant cars and checked it twice. You can check it out too after the break.
