Perhaps it’s only appropriate that a modern-day ZR1 Corvette engine would be placed in the original body style that started the ZR-1 (yes, with a hyphen back then) craze way back in 1970.

We first told you about this monster of a 1971 Corvette in July 2011, and now our friends at High Tech Corvette have put together a video that shows just what the modern LS9 ZR1 engine can do when planted in a 1971 Corvette. The LS9 even peeks out from under the hood through a clear opening that marks the C6 ZR1s.

All the major carmakers roll out their latest creations and concepts for the world to see. This year General Motors created a whole new display to highlight their portfolio of products. We grabbed a couple of tickets to the ritzy charity preview event so we could check out all the good stuff before the show opened to the public.

With Chevrolet joining the ranks of advertisers seeking independent filmmaker submissions for a Super Bowl commercial, it’s only fitting that our friends from Michael Brown Productions, creators of “The Quest” documentary, submitted two commercials for the competition. Featuring two Corvettes at opposite ends of the performance spectrum, the commercials made it through Round 1 but were eventually cut from consideration. As the two commercials were done totally with “tongue firmly planted in cheek”, Michael has released them for your viewing pleasure.

It was back in May that we brought you the news of Late Model Racecraft’s 1500 hp twin turbo Corvette ZR1 that ran 231 mph at the Texas Mile to claim the title as World’s Fastest Corvette in the Standing Mile. Not content to rest on their laurels, the Houston-based tuner has turned some wrenches on another Corvette ZR1 which they claim is now the fastest Corvette ZR1 in the world!

GM Builds its 100-Millionth Small Block Engine

General Motors has celebrated a major milestone today at Wixom’s Performance Build Center by building its 100-millionth small block engine. The engine chosen as the milestone motor is none other than the Corvette ZR1′s 638 horsepower LS9. Since 1955, the small block has been used in GM vehicles around the world and can also be found marine and industrial applications as well.

Update from GM on 2012 Corvette Production

GM has released an update on the current production statistics of the 2012 Corvette through October 10th. From it we can gather some of the purchasing habits of new Corvette owners including models and colors as well as acceptance of certain options. The Grand Sport Corvette Coupe is the most popular model with 43% of all Corvettes produced and 23% of new Corvette owners picked Torch Red as their favorite color. Of special note is the new Centennial Corvette package which accounts for 17% of all new Corvettes produced so far.

Configure Your New Corvette on the New 2012 Corvette Website

We’ve been hitting the official GM website for Corvette every couple of weeks to see when they were going to make the switch from the 2011 to the 2012 model year Corvette and this weekend we were rewarded with the new website. In addition to the pictures and model comparisons, GM has added a new “Customize Your Vehicle” configurator which allows potential Corvette buyers to see all the options available on the car.
