[VIDEO] 2019 Corvette ZR1 vs Porsche Taycan at the Drag Strip in Mexico

Over the last few years we’ve learned not to underestimate the capabilities of an electric car at the drag strip. So when I saw this video showing a 2019 Corvette ZR1 with the ZTK Performance Package going up against a Porsche Taycan, I had a bit of uneasiness about the outcome.

Pretty much everyone knows by now that that the instant torque on EVs gives them a big advantage at the drag strip. On paper, the Porsche Taycan electric motor makes 429 hp and is rated at 3.8 seconds for the 0-60 mph and the quarter mile in 12.3 seconds. But the Corvette is no slouch either. With its LT5 V8 engine rated at 755-hp, the last hurrah of the front-engine Corvette can go 0-60 mph in 2.85 seconds and can run the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds.

This race happens at the Autodromo Francisco Villa drag strip in Mexico and no timing board could be seen, but we do have some flashy lights that indicate the winning lane. Will the ZR1 prevail or does the EV take another ICE scalp?
