Corvettes Qualify Fourth and Fifth in Lime Rock ALMS

As the Bowling Green Assembly Plant ramps up production of the 2012 Corvette, two of its most popular colors are noticibly absent from the order system. Cyber Gray and Crystal Red Metallic have been in the top four color choices for Corvette buyers in both 2010 and midway through 2011. But the Japenese earthquake damaged the plant that provided a key paint pigment and both colors have been sidelined ever since.

Motor Trend: The Truth about the C7 Corvette

When GM’s North American President Mark Reuss visitied Bowling Green in May to announce the $131 million in upgrades to the Corvette Assembly Plant, he said in his speech that the C7 Corvette with be “completely different”. That statement has set off a number of speculative reports about the C7, from Autocar still talking about a mid-engine design while the Detroit Bureau breathlessly opined about GM developing a 3.0-litre turbocharged V8. Motor Trend has offered their take on the C7 in the August 2011 issue as well as debunking some of the irrational speculation surrounding the next generation Corvette.

According to a story by TheDetroitBureau.com, one of the engines that General Motors is planning on offering in the C7 Corvette is a European-style turbo V8 that will be slightly larger than 3 liters in displacement. This would mark a turning point for the company which has traditionally offered high-displacement V8s in the sports car. The turbocharged engine is expected to woo the hearts, minds and wallets of European performance car buyers who are usually drawn to the likes of Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini.

[RUMORS] Automotive News Proclaims 2012 as Last Full Year of C6 Corvette Production

Automotive News’ product editor Rick Kranz wrote yesterday on the timeline for C6/C7 Corvette production. However, he writes that the 2013 model year may be abbreviated to allow plenty of time to retool the Bowling Green Assembly Plant for C7 production.

[Made Up] Rumors of a Mid-Engined C7 Corvette Again

[Made Up] Rumors of a Mid-Engined C7 Corvette Again

I’m not buying it. The latest round of rumors of a C7 mid-engined Corvette come from the same English car site that pushed the same story a year ago. This time, they took a quote from GM’s North American President Mark Reuss who said the next generation Corvette would be “completely different”. Reuss made the statement at the Corvette Assembly Plant last week where he announced the company would be investing $131 million to upgrade the plant.

As one of the commenter’s on their own site said, there’s no meat in this sandwich. Following the same logic, I could say ithe C7 is going to be made out of metal. After all, that’s “completely different” than the C6. Or how about a hybrid? See, I can speculate like that too!

No More Cyber Gray or Crystal Red for 2011 Corvettes

Well, it looks like you can write off Cyber Gray, Crystal Red and Jetstream Blue as colors available for the 2011 Corvette. Jetstream Blue was already being phased out of this year’s remaining 2011 production, but the earthquake and resulting tsunami in Japan has affected several other colors that have automakers scrambling. And now we are hearing that customers with existing Corvette orders in the system are being asked to choose new colors.
