Corvettes Qualify Seventh and Eighth for ALMS Utah Grand Prix

SALT LAKE CITY, July 10, 2010 – Corvette Racing drivers Olivier Beretta and Johnny O’Connell qualified their twin Compuware Corvette C6.R race cars seventh and eighth respectively for Sunday’s American Le Mans Series Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsports Park. The fiercely competitive GT class saw Beretta qualify his No. 4 Corvette C6.R at 1:48.022, just .355-seconds off the pole-winning time set by the Ferrari 430 GT of Gianmaria Bruni at 1:47.729. O’Connell qualified at 1:48.279, .612 seconds behind Bruni.

Corvettes at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Corvettes from various years returned to the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed held in England on July 2nd-4th. Although Chevrolet had a 2010 Corvette ZR1 on display as well as a new Camaro, it was a 1963 Grand Sport Corvette Coupe that stole the show.

June 2010 Corvette Sales

GM released the sales figures for June today and the report shows Corvette sales holding steady with 1,405 deliveries. This is a decrease of just 23 Corvettes over May 2010′s 1,428 Corvettes. However, if you recall our analysis of May’s numbers, you’ll remember that deliveries were the highest since September 2009. So the fact that Corvette sales were nearly identical to May is good news. Want even more good news? Calendar year sales shows an increase of 0.6% over June’s 2009 1,396 deliveries.

Two Corvettes were destroyed by a tornado that swept through countryside outside Sibley, Iowa on June 25th. The owners, Henry and Twyla Bents survived the store by taking shelter in their basement.

C7 Corvette to Debut with New 5.5L 440 hp V8 Powerplant

Sources within GM have told Motor Trend that the C7 Corvette will be one of the first cars to feature the next-generation small block V8. General Motors recently announced its investment of $890 million to develop and manufacture the powerplant. The new V8 will feature aluminum blocks and heads, direct injection and a new combustion system.

Governor Signs Bill Naming Corvette Official Sport Car for the State of Kentucky

With hundreds of Corvette plant assembly workers looking on, Governor Beshear signed into law House Bill #104 declaring the Chevrolet Corvette the Official Sports Car of the State of Kentucky. Gov Beshear appropriately used an Arctic White Corvette ZR1 as his podium for the signing event at the assembly plant.

Corvette Assembly Plant to Forgo Annual Summer Shutdown

The Bowling Green Assembly Plant is one of nine plants that will remain open throughout the summer as GM works to meet customer demand. Like all GM assembly plants. BGAP normally schedules an annual summer shutdown during the first two weeks of July for maintenance or performing upgrades that is can only do when the assembly line is silent. But due to low inventories, GM will keep producing vehicles.
