Corvettes for Sale: Austin Power's 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Offered at Carlisle Fall Auction

Will this 1965 Corvette bring “one million dollars” at auction next month, or will Dr. Evil hold out for “one hundred billion dollars“?

Either way, somebody is going home with one groovy Corvette.

The red, white and blue Sting Ray convertible featured in the 1999 movie Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me is scheduled to cross the block Friday, Oct. 2, during the Fall Carlisle Collector Car Auction in Carlisle, Pa.

And this isn’t simply a Corvette painted to resemble the movie car.

It’s the real thing.

The 1965 Sting Ray was driven by Felicity Shagwell, played by Heather Graham, and still wears its unmistakable Stars and Stripes paint scheme along with the “CIA 1” Washington, D.C., license plate used in the film.

Groovy, baby!

Even without its Hollywood history, however, there’s a pretty desirable Corvette underneath all that red, white and blue.

The convertible is powered by its matching-numbers 327-cubic-inch V8 backed by a four-speed manual transmission. It also has power steering, power brakes and an AM/FM radio.

Dixie Corvettes completed a frame-off restoration in 2007-08, and the car reportedly has traveled about 7,000 miles since.

But let’s face it: Nobody is going to buy this Corvette just because it has a matching-numbers 327.

They’re buying the story.

After appearing in The Spy Who Shagged Me, the Corvette was sold by New Line Cinema in July 1999 to Warren Holland, CEO of gaming company Decipher Inc. It subsequently toured the country promoting an Austin Powers collectible card game.

Its entertainment career didn’t end there.

The Corvette also appeared in the 1999 music video for Lenny Kravitz’s cover of “American Woman,” which was recorded for the movie’s soundtrack.

It later made the transition from Hollywood prop to Corvette celebrity, appearing in magazines and at major Corvette events. It was part of the Chip’s Choice display at Corvettes at Carlisle in 2010 and has also appeared at Mid America Motorworks’ Corvette Funfest.

More recently, it returned to Carlisle for Corvettes at Carlisle 2026 before being consigned for the upcoming auction.

And unlike some supposed movie cars whose Hollywood histories become murkier with each new owner, this one comes with paperwork.

Included with the Corvette is a letter of authenticity from New Line Cinema, the original bill of sale documenting its transfer from the studio to Decipher, additional memorabilia and the original “CIA 1” movie license plate.

That provenance may ultimately be worth as much to bidders as anything under the hood.

After all, plenty of nice 1965 Corvettes survive.

There aren’t many that shared the screen with Austin Powers, appeared in a Lenny Kravitz video and spent the past quarter-century looking like the Fourth of July on four wheels.
