Some cars spend years working their way toward the auction block. This one managed it in just 881 miles.

A 2026 Corvette ZR1 3LZ finished in eye-catching Roswell Green Metallic over a Jet Black interior, has surfaced at an IAA facility in Portland South, Oregon. And judging from the photos and video, this Corvette’s first owner didn’t exactly get a lot of time to enjoy Chevrolet’s newest supercar before things went very wrong.

The ZR1 shows substantial damage concentrated at the front of the car. Beyond that battered nose, however, much of the Corvette appears remarkably fresh—which isn’t surprising considering the odometer reportedly shows only 881 miles.

Even more intriguing, video associated with the listing shows that the engine still runs.

For Corvette enthusiasts, that’s a particularly important detail. The 2026 ZR1 isn’t simply another high-performance Corvette. Its twin-turbocharged V8 that pumps out 1,064 horsepower puts it in an entirely different league from the typical sports car, making the sight of an almost-new example sitting damaged at a salvage auction particularly painful.

The internet, naturally, has shown little mercy.

One Instagram comment summed up the car’s remarkably short first chapter perfectly: “Only 881 of (cough) carefully and gingerly driven miles… then a few feet of instant regret.”

On Reddit, someone posed the question plenty of Corvette fans were probably thinking: Which one of you did this to a ZR1?

Another commenter offered an even shorter obituary:

“Well, it WAS a nice car. RIP.”

But “RIP” may be premature.

The Corvette, stock number 45963896, reportedly has not yet been assigned an auction date. Depending on the extent of the structural and mechanical damage hiding behind that destroyed front end, this could become a fascinating rebuild candidate.

And that’s where the story gets interesting.

A Roswell Green Metallic ZR1 with a 3LZ interior and only 881 miles isn’t something most enthusiasts expect to encounter at a salvage auction. If the passenger compartment, drivetrain and major structural components escaped serious damage, somebody may look at this Corvette and see something very different from a wreck.

They’ll see a chance to resurrect a nearly new ZR1 – perhaps at a deep discount but perhaps not.

Of course, buying a severely damaged ZR1 at auction is the easy part. Repairing one correctly—and economically—is another matter entirely. Modern Corvettes incorporate sophisticated electronics, cooling systems and expensive body and structural components. On a car as specialized as the ZR1, a front-end collision can produce a repair bill that extends far beyond what the photographs suggest.

Still, it’s difficult to look at the undamaged portions of this nearly new Corvette and imagine it being reduced to parts.

So perhaps this isn’t the end of the story.

Maybe somewhere, someone is already watching stock number 45963896, doing the math and waiting for IAA to announce an auction date.

Because 881 miles is awfully young for a Corvette ZR1 to die.

And Roswell Green deserves a second chance.

  1. if you can get a deal/price wise and can wait patiently for it’s partner to arrive , one with rear damage , and can do the work because You can and you love it , opportunity may be knocking.

  2. Forget it….
Just avoid the brain damage all together and buy a new one. Guaranteed, it will end up being less than putting this mess back together.

    Ugly color anyway, bad resale….

  3. Considering the value of the ZR1, if it is at action, I believe that the insurance company ‘totaled’ it.
That being the case, the cost to repair will be staggering!

  4. That isn’t minor damage. That’s a lot of front-end issues to deal with. Not exactly what I’d call a desirable spec, but YMMV. These kinds of wrecks are more plausible as rat-rod rebuilds than OEM-spec ones. It’ll always have a salvage title. Might as well do something fun with it. Green/Black with yellow calipers in a coupe isn’t inspiring as a “must preserve”.
