The guys at Paragon Performance have wasted no time in getting their hands on a new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport for testing and product development. The latest C8 model just arrived last week at the Iowa shop after they took delivery from Rick Conti at Coughlin Chevrolet in Ohio. On the drive back home, they surpassed the 500-mile break-in period and then rolled straight-away onto Paragon’s dynojet for its very first pull.
The Grand Sport’s new powerplant jumps to 6.7 liters while compression rises to 13:1. Also new is that Chevrolet added port injection alongside the standard direct injection. This is primarily to help with cold-start emissions, but as Graham from Paragon notes, it will simplify the process for E85 tuning which is something the performance shop is already working on.
During the first dyno run, Graham finds the new Grand Sport and its LS6 to be more sensitive to intake air temps and other dyno-room conditions than the previous 6.2L LT2 V8 in the Stingray. With the high temps, the car was heat-soaked and showed only 445 horsepower. But after letting the car cool, the horsepower started climbing to numbers that matched Paragon’s expectations: 473 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque. That was still shy of the 480 hp that Graham believed was achievable with the new engine, but again he mentions a local heatwave that is impacting results.
For more context, Paragon provided these SAE-corrected baselines for the Stingray, Grand Sport & Z06:
• Stingray: 424 hp / 410 lb‑ft (LT2)
• Grand Sport: 466 hp / 469 lb‑ft
• Z06: 597 hp / 431 lb‑ft
As expected, the Grand Sports lands exactly between the Stingray and Z06, but the main thing to be excited about is the LS6’s torque curve. The LS6’s torque is approximately +55 lb-ft higher than the 6.2L Stingray, and it shows up from 2,500 RPM all the way to redline. Graham also found that the Grand Sport seems to be hitting the rev limiter slightly earlier at around 6,300-6,400 RPM versus the Stingray’s 6,600 RPM.
That torque advantage is even bigger when compared to the Z06 and its high-revving LT6 V8 which really starts to pull at 6,000 RPM up to its 8,600 RPM redline. With the Grand Sport being a “torque monster” in the low-to-mid RPM range, Graham believes from a roll that the Grand Sport could out-pull a Z06 until the Z06 is able climbs into the higher power band.
With the new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport now in the shop, Paragon’s engineering team will be looking to offer aftermarket parts and tuning with the aforementioned E85 tune also possible. We’ll stay tuned to see what the performance junkies at Paragon come up with next.
