Lingenfelter Performance Engineering in Wixom, MI offered up what looks to be a very sensible series of upgrades on a C8 Corvette Z06 that adds some impressive power gains and weight savings while avoiding the dreadful check engine lights.

The back story is that a man and his son are both Corvette owners with this Z06 belonging to the dad while the son is rocking a C8 Corvette Stingray HTC featuring a built 427 engine from Lingenfelter. After several track dates in which the son’s C8 got the better of the Z06 with the ability to outpace it by one or two car lengths, dad brought the Z06 and asks for more power, better sound, but no issues with CILs.

Despite the freezing temps outside, Lingenfelter was eager to “turn up the heat” on the this Z06 and the plan was to install a set of American Racing Headers, a Halltech Super Hornet Airbox, and a Corsa exhaust system.

The American Racing headers were installed in the engine bay, quickly showing a beautiful coloration after several dyno runs. These headers are designed to improve exhaust flow, which contributes to power gains.

The Halltech Airbox replaced the factory airbox without protruding beyond the original factory location. It is encapsulated by the trunk lining, making it a non-invasive upgrade. This airbox not only improves airflow and engine breathability but also contributes to weight savings.

The factory exhaust was removed and replaced with a Corsa exhaust system, including mufflers as per the customer’s preference. While a more aggressive weight reduction could have been achieved by removing the mufflers, the customer wanted to retain the ability to change the exhaust note. This system contributed to overall weight savings and enhanced sound quality.

With these changes, the Z06 owner is now saving 40 pounds compared to the factory exhaust, and the Halltech Airbox also contributed to an additional four pounds of weight savings.

The Corvette Z06 did a dyno run prior to the upgrades to set the baseline and then after the bolt-ons were installed, another dyno run verified a 9-RWHP gain at the top of the RPM band while also seeing a substantial 49 lb-ft of torque in the midrange. Midrange horsepower gains of 23 to 25 RWHP were also reported.
