We knew that there was more to the story after Chevrolet posted this teaser video on Wednesday showing its 1,250-hp Corvette ZR1X with the Stars & Steel Limited Edition package blowing out a birthday candle with a cold start.

On Saturday, Chevrolet is planning on blowing out 250 candles during a “stunt” that will be performed live at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Corvette development engineer Cody Bulkley gave a reporter for WISH-TV a preview of what’s to come on Saturday afternoon:

“We’ve got the most special way to represent our country. We are going to do an incredible stunt in a Corvette ZR1X to give the ultimate celebration for the United States.”

“We got 250 Candles, nine inches apart, 186 feet, that we’re going to blow past like a rocket, and we’re going to end with a 100-foot diameter drift into smoke and to celebrate the country in style.”

The stunt will be performed by a Red Mist 2026 Corvette ZR1X wearing the Stars & Steel Limited Edition Package. A version of the special graphic package is also on the official Corvette ZR1X Indy 500 Pace Car, as well as the Indy 500 Festival E-Rays and Chevrolet trucks at the track for the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Chevrolet is also donating $250 to veterans’ communities for every Corvette and truck sold with the limited edition Stars & Steel package.

Cody had some more insight which he shared with the WISH-TV reporter from the track:

“Obviously, General Motors is so tied into the America culture and Chevrolet, believe it or not, 87% of Americans are within 10 miles of a dealership. So we’re embedded into the culture, and we really wanted to embrace that. So, we had to come up with something big, right? We really got to celebrate that collaboration and really show what our country is about. We knew we had to do it in the most spectacular way with flames, with smoke, and 1,250 horsepower going by!”

Cody has worked for GM for 11 years now and we are assuming he will be the driver of the ZR1X as it performs its 250th Birthday Celebration to America at the famous Brickyard. Cody also did the “Cyclone Spin” live on the Today show from the ice rink at Rockefeller Center in New York City as part of the launch event for the Corvette E-Ray.

Chevrolet’s social media channels will share a video of the stunt once completed. It’s expected to happen around 2:30 pm ET at the track.
