What’s better than one Corvette ZR-1?

How about two?

That’s the pitch behind an eBay listing offering a pair of 1991 Corvette ZR-1 project cars for $12,500. It sounds like a dream for LT5 diehards — until you read the details. And judging by the early reactions, readers aren’t exactly lining up with tow trucks.

The first car is a white 1991 ZR-1 with a Florida flood history and a rebuildable salvage title. Mileage is unknown — the last recorded figure was around 20,000 miles back in 1996 — and the seller hasn’t attempted to start it.

The body is said to be straight, but the paint is peeling badly across the front bumper. The LCD dash doesn’t light up, though the seller notes there’s no silt or dirt behind the gauge lens. The interior “looks like (it) will clean up pretty good,” but even the seller admits they have no idea how high the water got since there are no demarcation lines and no dirt or silt behind the gauge cluster lenses.

One reader didn’t mince words:

“Seems like a pretty high asking price for a couple parts cars,” JDC wrote. “Better off finding a good example and paying a bit more.”

Another reader raised the question everyone was thinking:

“Would be nice to know if it was a saltwater flood or not,” bobhess said. “If it was, everything except the hard parts is junk.”

The second car — a black 1991 ZR-1 — carries a clean title but has its own set of issues. The cluster doesn’t light up, the mileage is unknown, and the car has been sitting long enough for rodents to move in after a tree branch smashed the windshield and targa top.

The seller says it ran fine when parked and was started regularly until a couple years ago. But now it needs a full restoration, plus attention to a damaged lower door and whatever the weather exposure has done to the interior. It has an aftermarket exhaust and some unknown work performed at Vette Doctors in New Jersey. Original wheels are included, though the tires won’t hold air.

Reader Troy summed up the optimism meets reality vibe:

“$5,000 for both is more reasonable… but I’d love the opportunity to see if I could get them cruising again.”

The seller is offering both cars together for $12,500, payable by wire transfer or cash only. No secure payment services accepted.

For some readers, that price was the biggest sticking point.

“Love the C4s but I wouldn’t touch either one,” Paul wrote. “You could find a really nice ZR-1 for not a whole lot more.”

Others saw potential — with a big asterisk.

“If you buy them both and sell the black one for half, you have a ZR-1 for $6,250,” Dave reasoned. “I’d want to inspect the engine in the flood car for internal rust.”

Wayne, who’s been on the repair side of GM projects, put it this way:

“The asking price is a huge gamble… I might be interested at about $5k. There could be upside for parts or a track day build. If lucky, you may end up with a track car for free.”

For purists, the appeal is obvious: two real LT5 powered ZR-1s, a car that still holds a special place in Corvette history. But the condition of both cars — and the unknowns lurking beneath — make this package deal more of a high stakes project than a bargain.

If you’re the kind of buyer who sees potential where others see parts, this might be your kind of adventure.

If not? Well, as the comments suggest, you might be better off spending a little more for a ZR-1 that doesn’t come with floodwater, rodents, or mystery mileage.

Either way, it’s not every day you see two ZR-1s bundled together. Whether that’s a blessing or a warning depends entirely on how brave you’re feeling.
