If Chevrolet ever needs inspiration for future C8 Corvette colors, it wouldn’t hurt to flip back to the 1993 paint chart. That was the year Chevy rolled out one of the most exotic shades ever to grace a Corvette: Black Rose Metallic.
Now, one of those rare C4 Corvettes has surfaced on Craigslist out of the San Diego area with an asking price of $14,900—a number that feels a little ambitious for a car showing 87,300 miles, rare color or not.
Only 935 Corvettes wore Black Rose in 1993, out of a total production run of 21,590. Add in the fact that this example comes with a six speed manual and the optional FX3 Selective Ride and Handling Package—a $1,695 upgrade chosen by roughly a quarter of buyers—and you’ve got a car that checks several enthusiast boxes.
The seller calls it “heavily optioned,” pointing to dual power black leather seats and automatic climate control. The original Bose system has been swapped for a Pioneer AM/FM/CD unit. Inside and out, the car presents well, and the chrome wheels complement the Black Rose finish nicely.
But there’s one thing that’s hard to overlook: the scratches all over the center console, which drag down an otherwise clean interior. Maybe that’s nitpicking, but it’s the kind of detail that jumps out when you’re evaluating a 30-year-old Corvette at this price point
Black Rose Metallic was available from 1992 to 1994, and it remains one of the most distinctive colors of the C4 era. Would you want to see it return on the mid-engine C8? It’s not out of the question—Chevy already revived the shade once, offering a modernized version for 2017 and 2018. Some colors just refuse to fade away. Black Rose might be one of them.

Black Rose should be left in the dustbin. If any C4 colors need revisited, it’s Turquoise Metallic.
Black Rose looks great on the C7 two years. I get compliments on my ‘17 Z06 every time I’m out.
Black Rose Metallic is a nice color. I liked it on the C4 and C7.
This should replace Hysteria Purple (which is more of a blue) on the C8. It’s a really cool and unique color that I would order on a new car.
