How much do you love the C6 Corvette Grand Sport? Enough to spend C8 money on a pristine, low mileage example?
That’s the dilemma facing shoppers eyeing this Torch Red 2011 Grand Sport convertible, listed by a New York dealer on Craigslist for a hefty $54,995. That kind of cash will also put you in the driver’s seat of a high mileage 2020 1LT C8 Stingray these days—though you’d be looking at something closer to 80,000 miles, not the barely broken in 3,000 miles showing on this immaculate C6.
In the end, it comes down to taste. Do you prefer the classic long nose, wide body swagger of the C6 Grand Sport, or the futuristic mid engine presence of the C8?
This one owner GS certainly makes its case. It’s equipped with the top tier 4LT package, and unlike many C6s, the leather dash doesn’t appear to be peeling away from the underlying plastic—a notoriously expensive fix. The car is loaded with features: power convertible top, magnetic selective ride, heated leather seats, Bose audio, dual zone climate control, Bluetooth, paddle shifters, quad tip exhaust, and all the expected power conveniences.
And of course, the Grand Sport brings the Z06 style widebody and suspension tuning—just without the LS7’s 505 horses. Instead, you “settle” for the 436 hp LS3, which is hardly a consolation prize.
As someone who has owned two C8 Stingrays and currently drives a C6 Grand Sport, I can see both sides of the argument. The C8’s performance is undeniable, but the C6 GS still has one of the best rear end and side designs in Corvette history—and the payment book for my 50,000-mile example is definitely a lot friendlier.
I admire the condition of this low mileage example, but personally, I’d have a hard time justifying C8 level money for it when a better performing mid engine car sits in the same price range, even with a few more miles on the clock.
What about you—are you Team C6 or Team C8?
