Shawn Pilot—better known to millions as the fast talking Wheeler Dealer from Netflix’s Car Masters: Rust to Riches—may have just pulled off one of his best finds yet.
While scrolling Facebook Marketplace one afternoon, he stumbled across a freshly posted ad for a 1969 Corvette priced at only $3,500. Even in rough shape, that number is unheard of. And according to the seller, the car came with all the parts needed to complete it. For Shawn, that was enough to hit the gas.
There was just one problem: the car was sitting in Las Vegas, four hours away. And a deal this good rarely survives four minutes online, let alone four hours. But the thought of missing out gnawed at him. Within the hour, he had a dolly hooked up, a set of wheels loaded in his SUV, and headed toward Sin City.
Halfway there, the seller still hadn’t answered his calls—only texts. Odd, but maybe a blessing. “I don’t think anybody knows they need to text this guy,” Shawn joked as he pushed on toward Vegas.
Against all odds, the Corvette was still available when he arrived. Sun faded and neglected after years baking in a backyard, the car looked tired—but solid. The body was super straight, the door gaps perfect, and the frame shockingly pristine. No rust, no rot, no surprises – about as good as when it left the factory. A true desert survivor.
The interior, however, had been cooked to “extra crispy.” Seats, dash, carpet—everything had suffered under the Vegas sun. Still, the important pieces were there: original gauges, original AM/FM radio, and rare factory options including air conditioning, power windows, and a tilt telescopic wheel. Rare equipment that adds real value, he says.
Under the hood sat a 350ci V8. It wasn’t pretty, but it was complete—and later, after a deep cleaning, Shawn discovered the best news of all: the engine was numbers matching.
The seller, Alex, admitted the car had been sitting for six years. He’d bought it for $1,800 and was happy to let it go for a discounted rate of $3,000, chrome bumpers, trim and wiper door assembly included. Shawn loaded the wheels, dodged a few landmines from Alex’s enormous dog, and slowly rolled the Corvette with Alex’s help onto the dolly. Vegas had paid off on a long shot.
Back home, a wash revealed hints of a deep candy apple red metallic beneath the haze. With careful sanding and polishing, the paint on one of the T-tops began to shine again—proof that this forgotten Corvette still has some life left in it.
“I’m envisioning what this is going to look like once I sand and polish the rest of the paint, then put the chrome bumpers on and all the trim,” Shawn says. “If the rest of the paint polishes up and looks half as good as this top, and this engine fires up and doesn’t need a complete rebuild, that’d make this $3,000 investment one hell of a deal.”

Shawn did great stealing this well optioned and very pretty color 69 for only 3 grand. After he turns it out it ought to be a nice driver quality Vette for not having a lot of money tied up in it. Love his videos!
