Whoever said you can’t make chicken salad out of chicken bleep has clearly never laid eyes on the photos of this 1963 Corvette split window coupe now up for grabs on Bring a Trailer.

The listing’s professional photography captures the iconic lines of the ’63 Sting Ray in a range of settings, and while the exterior looks worn, weathered, and downright tattered, the real surprises reveal themselves once you slip behind the wheel or peek under the hood.

This car’s backstory is as unconventional as they come. Sold new in Missouri, it spent its early years towing a fishing boat through the Ozarks, later moonlighting as a drag racer before being tucked away by its second owner. The result is a Daytona Blue finish rubbed thin in places, wearing a hard earned patina that tells the truth about its unpampered life.

The current seller picked it up in 2023 and wasted no time transforming its mechanical heart. Out went the blown replacement engine; in went a 6.2 liter LS3 V8 paired with a rebuilt 4L60E four speed automatic from a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport, backed by an aluminum radiator and a fresh fuel tank.

The upgrades didn’t stop there. The interior was refreshed the same year, now sporting blue leather bucket seats and a RetroSound stereo that blends vintage looks with modern function.

The exterior, however, remains untouched — still wearing its original checked, chipped, and sun baked Daytona Blue paint, along with the custom tow bar and tow ball installed back in the 1960s.

Additional highlights include a dry ice cleaned engine bay, Quickshift controller, rebuilt Positraction differential, and Borla mufflers.

Judging by the photos, the car’s charm comes from that perfectly imperfect skin. Honestly, we’d be tempted to leave the outside exactly as it sits — and enjoy the freedom of never worrying about the first scratch.

Apparently others tend to agree as the high bid has already climbed to $75,000, and six days remain in the auction.
