[VIDEO] Corvette Driver Arrested After Trying to Impress Date with Donuts in a Church Parking Lot

What was supposed to be a first date ended in handcuffs Saturday night after deputies say a man tore through an Englewood, Florida church parking lot in a Corvette, spinning donuts so aggressively that blue smoke briefly hid the car from view.

Charlotte County deputies arrested 28-year-old Landon Morris after witnesses reported a gray Corvette screeching across the parking lot of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Gulf Coast Boulevard. Tire marks left behind offer tangible proof of the donuts—just feet from nearby homes.

“They went round and round and round, and at one-point blue smoke was so dense you couldn’t see the car,” one witness told a Gulf Coast News TV reporter.

Another neighbor gave this description: “It sounded like a car that was completely hot-rodded out – no mufflers, very, very loud.”

A deputy first heard the roar of the Corvette racing south on Winchester Boulevard near South McCall Road. Investigators say Morris sped through several neighborhoods before whipping into the church lot and spinning the car in tight circles, filling the air with smoke.

“Here comes the sheriff,” a witness said, “you know, the smoke is still coming off the pavement.”

Deputies say Morris admitted he had driven from Orlando to meet a woman from Rotonda West for their first date. The passenger reportedly apologized at the scene, telling deputies she had asked him to “do the donuts” to impress her.

The stunt didn’t land. Morris was arrested and charged with racing.

Neighbors say the incident is another reminder of the dangers of reckless driving in the area—especially after a deadly crash in July prompted the county to add a new four way stop on Ocean Spray Boulevard.

“We have families, we have children living in the area,” one man said.

Another said, “Definitely very scary. Very, very concerning. We just have to be vigilant. So whenever we walk, we’re always aware of our surroundings or at least try to be the best we can.”

  1. i love the look on the guys face. I hope the girl was worth it. You do what you have to do sometimes :0

  2. This story is just stupid, and the charges will not stick. Doing donuts in a parking lot on private property is not illegal, and certainty not racing. Going fast through the neighborhood was not very bright on Mr. Morris’s part but unless he was directly observed by the police officer being charged with racing is not going to cut it. There are other offences he could be charged with but racing. Who? In any case if Mr. Morris needs to do donuts in a parking lot to impress a girl on a first date, I think he needs a little coaching.

  3. Sounds like his date is just as stupid as this dork himself is. What’s up with him grinning for his mugshot?

  4. He was on private property and was the only car. not sure these charges will stick with a halfway decent lawyer!

  5. OMG! What he did most of us did with our corvettes! I did this with my 1965 and 1966 back when I was 19 years old. There was nobody around in the parking lot at the time.Places where closed. The police are making a mountain out of a molehill!!

  6. Hey OLD GEEZER,
    Don’t come to Ontario, Canada.

Our new demographic up here has ruined it for everyone with a little common sense.

It is considered stunt driving up here UNLESS you have express written permission of the private property owner.

  7. Meanwhile, chimps are whipping donuts for hours in intersections in stolen Hellcats and the police do nothing.

  8. Yeah this is just dumb, let the guy go with a warning and scare him verbally. He’s not hurting a soul in a private lot and no need to arrest.

  9. Good for him, got a smile on his face. Church parking lots are empty till Sunday, therefore a danger to no one. He was driving a car that can do donuts all day, so safe for him. Having fun should never be a crime, let alone jail! Most memorable first date ever. Good job, buddy!
