He calls it the “Previous King,” but is it ready to face the real King?
Brooks from DragTimes is back at Bradenton Motorsports Park with his new Blade Silver Corvette ZR1 and in this matchup, he’s going up against the McLaren 765LT. He called it the previous king as his fastest time in his own 765LT was 9.35 seconds at 151 MPH. Now, he’s hoping to beat that time with the new King of the Hill.
He’s already done it once earlier that day by sending the Corvette ZR1 down Bradenton’s prepped track for a world record time of 9.29 seconds at 153 MPH. While that time has already been improved on by a slightly modded ZR1, Brooks did that time with his 100% stock ZR1 simply by removing the rear wing which provided additional speed when it counted.
The McLaren 765LT is powered by a 4.0L twin turbo V8 producing 765 hp, and it weighs in at just 3,015 lbs. The cost of the car is listed at $500,000. The ZR1 comes in much heavier at 3,783 lbs. while the 5.5-liter twin turbo V8 produces 1,064 horsepower. The ZR1’s MSRP is half of the McLaren and comes in at $231,000.
Three races were planned, and the first matchup was a bust as the McLaren “fell out of launch control” and it would show up at the finish line on the Tuesday after the race. But the 2nd and 3rd races were legit with the ZR1 besting the 765LT both times. The fastest times for both sportscars came on the third race with the ZR1 running 9.369 seconds at 150.93 mph versus the McLaren’s run of 9.682 seconds at 144.89 mph.
