The driver of a C8 Corvette found himself in handcuffs Monday night after a brief attempt to outrun police ended with his Arctic White Stingray wrapped around a tree in Orange County.
According to the Brea Police Department, officers first attempted to pull the Corvette over during a routine traffic stop. Instead of stopping, the driver hit the gas, and the patrol car’s dashcam captured the Stingray speeding away and making a sharp left turn before disappearing from view.
Moments later, officers came upon the Corvette off the roadway, surrounded by trees, its nose buried in one. Despite the violent impact, the driver appeared to escape serious injury. Dashcam footage shows him stepping out with his hands raised and surrendering to officers.
Police soon discovered why the driver may have tried to flee. A search of the Corvette turned up contraband.
“The driver wasn’t just in a hurry,” police said. “A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded handgun and a controlled substance.”
The driver was taken into custody without further incident. Police have not released additional details about the suspect or the charges he may face.
