If you’re looking for a winter project with a few more pieces than your average jigsaw puzzle, this 1966 Corvette big block coupe might be calling your name.
Just be warned: as the toy companies like to say, some assembly is required.
Now on eBay with 16 bids reaching $35,600—still shy of the reserve—this disassembled Sting Ray began life as a 427/425 horsepower bruiser. It now carries an NOS replacement block (suffix IP) assembled as a long block, ready for the next owner to finish the job.
A lifelong California car, it spent the past 15 years tucked away in storage before the seller purchased it directly from the original owner. He never registered it, meaning the buyer will “technically” become only the second owner of this mid year big block coupe.
The body has already been blocked and coated in primer, waiting for someone to lay down fresh paint—whether that’s the original Nassau Blue or something entirely new. Just make sure it pairs well with the completely new Al Knoch interior that’s currently on order. The factory color was dark blue, though the seller hasn’t revealed what shade he requested.
Factory equipment on this ’66 checks all the right boxes: the original M21 four speed manual, power steering, power brakes, power windows, full tinted glass, F41 suspension, leather seats, factory side pipes, and aftermarket knock off wheels.
The seller says the chrome and stainless trim are “near perfect,” and he’s already gathered—or ordered—about $12,000 worth of NOS “big ticket” replacement parts. That haul includes a full weatherstrip kit, numerous smaller components, and an exact reproduction hood for anyone who wants to swap out the current ’67 style stinger hood. The car currently sits on ’67 style Rally wheels, and the sale includes a set of aftermarket knock offs and new tires.
For the right buyer, this isn’t just a project—it’s the chance to resurrect a factory big block Corvette with the rare benefit of knowing exactly what you’re starting with.
