Finished after a five-year body-off restoration in Florida carefully documented by hundreds of photos, this 1971 Corvette Stingray T-top coupe is now looking for a new owner.
The big-block LS5 454 Corvette is being offered on Craigslist out of Massachusetts. You can pay $49,500, make an offer, or possibly trade a clean 1967-69 Camaro or 1967-72 Chevelle, the seller says.
The numbers-matching engine was built approximately 2,500 miles ago, expanding to 465 cubic inches to deliver a whopping 609 horsepower on the dyno, around 500+ horsepower at the rear wheels. It’s mated with the original Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission and 3.08 rear gears.
During the restoration, “every nut and bolt” was changed out, the chassis components were all powder-coated, and all the wiring was replaced.
Features include power windows, tilt-telescopic steering column, new Vintage Air climate control, American Racing wheels, Wilwood four-wheel disc braking system, aftermarket Corbeau seats, and more.
Underneath, the car has “zero” rust, according to the owner, who describes the new black paint as “beautiful.” The interior is in immaculate condition, too, and if you don’t like the new seats, the stock units are included with the sale, along with a spare set of heads, a “high-quality” car cover, and some small spare parts.
The new owner will also receive lots of paperwork and the original owner’s manual, along with a zip file full of photos that document every step of the restoration.
“Everything works as it should,” the owner concludes. “This car needs nothing.”
Except a new owner. If you’re interested, here are some more details about the engine work from the builder himself:
“The build started with a virgin LS5 short block. I hot tanked it and magna fluxed it, checked out fine, did a full block prep, line honed it, bored it .060, TQ plate honed it, couldn’t deck the block due to the numbers. I resized the rods and installed ARP bolts, small ends were checked for press. I installed my custom Race Tec pistons on the rods, after a pin fit. The crank was ground .010 .010 and to even out the stroke we ended up with a 3.990 stroke, not helpful when considering I couldn’t cut the deck, which left me with 465 Cubic Inches. My custom hyd. roller ground on a billet core was 580/600/228/238/111/106, Morel lifters were used, with a Rollmaster timing chain. 049 GM oval port heads were used with the usual work, Scorpion rocker arms with Smith Bros .083 wall moly pushrods, Comp cams guide plates along with AFR adjustable guide plates were used. A Performer RPM air gap with work and a AED 1000 carb with a 1 inch open spacer for induction. Factory Corvette oil pan with a windage tray, M77 oil pump with a heli arc oil pickup. Maxima 10-40 oil with a Wix 51061 filter, 91 octane gas.”

It’s built, black over black and badass! Can’t believe the owner would even consider trading it for a Camaro or Chevelle.
Has it been rebuilt already back to new again looks good as new right 👍👍 everyone….
Nice work!! I’m curious how you remedied the 3.99 stroke, since you couldn’t cut the deck.
Thank you
