Authorities in California are urging parents to have “the talk” with their teens.
No, not THAT talk.
We’re talking about warning young drivers about the dangers of reckless driving, and the Fresno Police Department is sending a message to parents after arresting two 19-year-olds Wednesday for racing in their red sports cars, specifically a Camaro and a C8 Corvette.
Police say the teens hit speeds of more than 100 mph on Highways 99 and 41, even passing other cars on the shoulder and swerving through traffic.
Now, the two GM sports cars are impounded for 30 days, and the drivers face charges of reckless driving after being tracked by air patrol to a Chick-fil-A, where they were arrested.
Afterwards, authorities sent this message not only to the teens’ parents but also to all parents via social media:
“Parents: If you’ve co-signed on your teen’s or young adult’s vehicle, remember, you could also be held financially responsible for the consequences of their driving behavior. Reckless driving doesn’t just lead to tickets or impounds. It endangers lives. High speeds and unsafe maneuvers are major contributors to severe crashes and fatalities. Please talk with the young drivers in your family. Remind them that every time they take the wheel, they take on a life-or-death responsibility.”

So, who won the race?
Air patrol clearly won the race.
Hey kids, don’t expect your little red hot rods to be in the same condition they were in when they were towed. And another thing, next time go out in the middle of nowhere to race like we did 40 years ago, never got caught.
They had the same problem in the 1950’s , kids racing their cars on the street. So they built drag strips all over the country, where the hot rod owners and others with fast cars had a
safe controlled space to race. Since then, we have had all this “progress” filling up all the vacant land with new developments. Most of the drag strips were bought up, so they could fill up the property with apartments , condos and strip malls. So…once again there is no where to channel all this pent up energy to race their cars, So they are back on the streets and highways
Spoiled rich kids.
We are all guilty of this and you know it. Don’t do it or don’t get caught and do not endanger anyone except yourself.
I agree with everyone’s plea to always drive safe and think about how one’s reckless actions could affect others in a negative way and possibly forever.
Perhaps the solution is to make that first car a Prius! However, I have had many a Prius pass me in both my 2024 Camaro and 2023 C8 Corvette as I drove the speed limit.
And just think about the increase insurance rates. It’s not worth the risk of a ticket or an accident. Always drive safe.
This is the second story I read about drivers going over 100mph. The other one was in Florida where the driver (who was 57 driving a C8) got arrested because of the new super speeder law there. A cure for this problem is simple. There should be a lane that requires you to drive at least 100mph or you should get a ticket or suspension or maybe arrest. No need to drive stupid or reckless. Anyone who can’t do that should stay in the right lane. To all of those driving boring cars, if you see any corvette coming up behind you, get the hell out of the way. My momma told me life is too short to drive slow cars. I always do what momma tells me.
