Seventy-one years after it first rolled off the line, this updated 1954 Corvette still knows how to turn every head on the boulevard.
With a repaint in a “look-at-me” shade of yellow and the recent installation of a modern powerplant, this car – being offered on Craigslist out of Mechanicsville, Maryland for $49,750 – still has plenty of life on the road.
A disabled veteran owns the car, but after a recent illness, he can no longer drive, and his son is handling the sale of the Corvette to a new owner.
This past spring, father and son enjoyed one last ride up and down the strip in Ocean City, where they attended the OC Classic Car Show, prompting tons of thumbs-up and “cool car” comments as the old veteran wore an ear-to-ear grin the whole time. He also loved sitting behind his ‘Vette and chatting with all of the spectators/owners who walked through the show.
After buying the car in September 2023 from an Arizona dealer, he had it brought to his home in Maryland. Unfortunately, 13 months later, the 400 V8 under the hood broke down, and he had a brand new 350/375 horsepower crate motor – along with a conversion to front disc brakes – installed at a cost of $8,000, with receipts available. It’s been driven less than 1,000 miles since.
Other mechanical upgrades also include a new starter, a TH350 automatic transmission, Holley four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake and valve covers, aluminum radiator with electric fan, Hooker long tube headers, Flowmaster dual exhaust, independent front suspension with coil springs and shocks, leaf springs with air shocks, 9-inch Ford rear end, Kenwood Bluetooth radio, and hidden battery disconnect switch.
After all this attention, the car starts up immediately, hot or cold, with no issues, the son says, and it shifts, brakes, and steers well.
“This car is in really good shape,” he adds, “especially for being 71 years old! So much fun to drive with the top down and the V8’s growl through the exhaust behind you. It seriously takes you back to another time!”
Included with the sale will be a Maryland title in the veteran’s name, car cover, new tire/wheel covers, multiple keys, removable glass side windows with storage bag, and all corresponding paperwork.
