Since 1995, the Woodward Dream Cruise has served as the pinnacle of the summer cruising season. It all started as a fundraiser for a local ball field and has since morphed into the world’s largest single-day car event. Annually, an estimated 1 million people and 40,000 collector cars gather along America’s first paved highway.
Today the event takes places along a 16-mile stretch of roadway from Ferndale on the South end to Pontiac on the North end. In between you’ll find several more communities with each holding their own unique celebration of all things automobile.
The days leading up to the big event have spawned satellite events like Corvettes on Woodward for us Corvette folk. Many other marques hold gatherings, tours, and events as the event draws nearer as well.
We made our annual visit to the Royal Oak and Birmingham communities early Saturday morning as the avenue was waking up. Thanks to cool temps and light traffic we were excited to see many older cars actually driving up and down the road rather than parked alongside it. As the day went on, the older rides gave way to later model cars with more robust cooling systems.
GM Performance had their usual spot in Royal Oak’s Memorial Park. There they showed off all the latest hop up parts for your GM car while doling out free T-shirts. Out front they showed off a new ZR1, a Z06, and their older C3 concept in addition to several trucks and a 1,000hp Chevy Laguna.
Up in Birmingham, GM’s main display covered everything in their portfolio from trucks to, of course, Corvettes. This included a ZR1 display featuring the C4, C6, and C7 variants. Across from them sat the entire current Corvette lineup from Stingray to ZR1X. Interestingly, it was the bright yellow ZTK-equipped ZR1 garnering the most attention while the more subtle silver ZR1X flew under the radar right next door.
Over the course of our quick morning on Woodward we caught Corvettes of all generations cruising along or showing off in one of the parking lots along the route. As usual there was no shortage of Corvettes at the Woodward Dream Cruise.
If you’re ever in metro Detroit on the 3rd Saturday in August be sure to get yourself over to Woodward for a car event you’ll never forget. Now, here’s a look at some of the Corvettes we saw at this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise.

All of them are sweet rides!
This was our 25th year attending the Dream Cruise. For the last three years we have trailered our silver 61 Restomod (featured in the article) all the way from Georgia…there’s nothing like the Dream Cruise anywhere else.
Nice annual event. I always enjoyed making a few loops. Although hot, at least it wasn’t raining this year. Wish there were more interesting customs, but that’s 2025 for ya. 90+% store-bought cars… Times change. I understand that the “wildest” part of cruise day is up in the Pontiac wide track loop. Recent report from my friend who lives in the Birmingham area is that 2 weeks before official cruise-day is when you see the most interesting demonstrations…
