The driver of this C6 Corvette suffered major injuries Sunday afternoon after crashing during an alleged race with a Mustang, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to a CHP press release, the two cars were racing north on Highway 99 in Modesto about 1 p.m. when the driver of the Corvette – 26-year-old Tyler Azadzoi of Citrus Heights – veered off the right shoulder. The Corvette overturned several times, throwing him out of the car and sending him to a hospital for treatment. A passenger suffered minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Mustang stopped briefly at the scene, then fled before authorities arrived. Identified as 22-year-old Raul Torres Jr., he was later apprehended at his Manteca residence, where his Mustang was impounded.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe the two cars were traveling at more than 100 mph when they approached slower traffic, prompting the Corvette driver to veer onto the dirt and gravel median, losing control and veering across the northbound lanes of the highway, onto the right shoulder and into a chain link fence before overturning several times and finally coming to rest upside down on Sisk Road.
Torres faces charges of suspicion of reckless driving proximately causing bodily injury (felony), speed contest causing injury (felony), reckless driving (misdemeanor), engaging in a speed contest (misdemeanor) and driving unlicensed (misdemeanor).
The accident reinforces the dangers of racing on public roads, as well as the failure to use safety equipment since Azadzoi was not wearing his seat belt at the time.
“The CHP would like to remind all motorists that seat belts, when worn properly, have the ability to save your life when involved in a traffic collision,” the Highway Patrol said in a news release.

Seeing as this is Cali, the 22yo Mustang driver will probably get probation. The guy in the Corvette has lost his Corvette and may get some jail time out of his stupid move. Both Darwin Award candidates who will probably repeat their actions again.
From the picture I’ve seen, appears to be a C8.
Nothing good ever comes out of not wearing a seat belt and being ejected from a moving vehicle. I would think the Corvette driver would be extremely lucky to even survive this and be able to go to jail.
The auther might want to double check their facts, as that is a C8 Corvette and not a C6.
Corvette was identifying as a mustang
