What appears to have been just a routine cruise with the top down in a red C2 Corvette quickly turned into a nightmare for the two occupants of the car last Friday in Maine.

Authorities say the crash occurred about 5 p.m. in Jefferson when the Sting Ray convertible – being driven by Gregory Boynton, 59, of Washington, Maine – was struck nearly head-on by a gray 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander operated by Hayden Sevey, 52, of Sandford, Maine.

Police say the Outlander was headed east on Rockland Road and attempted a left turn into Maritime Farms (Peaslee’s Store) in front of the Corvette that was traveling west on Rockland Road.

Boynton and his passenger, Michelle Levesque, 57, of West Gardiner, suffered serious injuries and had to be transported by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Sevey, who was alone in his car, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

“Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor,” the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “Preliminary investigation indicates the Sevey vehicle’s failure to yield as a factor in the crash.”

The collision is being reconstructed by LCSO Accident Reconstructionist Deputy Ethan Burns and Detective Brian Carlton from Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.

  1. I have been considering replacing my ’66 Corvette’s original lap belts with a set of retractable 3-point seat belts, as well as adding a set of reproduction headrests to its low back bucket seats. Doubtful that such upgrades would have allowed the occupants of this Corvette to have walked away from such a serious accident, but it likely would have helped reduce the extent of their injuries. I wish them both a speedy and full recovery.
