[STOLEN] Not Again! Corvettes Reported Stolen from the Corvette Assembly Plant

Plant confirms two Corvette ZR1s stolen

During the late evening hours on Friday, August 8th, it’s being reported that two Corvettes were stolen from the Corvette Assembly Plant. These were two ZR1s according to plant spokesperson Rachel Bagshaw. Both cars have been recovered.

“The Kentucky State Police, Bowling Green Police Department, and Warren County Sheriff’s Office were swift in their response and successfully located both vehicles,” Bagshaw said. “We are grateful for the support and partnership with all law enforcement involved.”

The Bowling Green Police Department said one Corvette was recovered in Bowling Green while the other was located three hours away in Martin County, Indiana. Neither car was damaged, but the one in Bowling Green was spike stripped during the pursuit.

Police also confirmed the arrest of 20-year-old Daedrin Cook who was booked into the Warren County Regional Jail at 3:45 am Saturday. His charges include engaging in organized crime, first degree fleeing or evading police, first degree wanton endangerment, theft by unlawful taking of an automobile, first degree criminal mischief, tampering with physical evident and obscuring the identity of a machine $10,000 or more.

An accomplice who drove the Orange Corvette ZR1 was being sought by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. They posted this on Facebook:

We ask that you check all garages and out buildings to confirm that a vehicle or mode of transportation was not stolen from your property.

ATTEMPT TO LOCATE:
DENNIS T. SMITH, A 26 YEAR OLD BLACK MALE, 5’8″ TALL, 155 POUNDS, LAST SEEN WEARING A BLACK SKI MASK.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in an attempt to locate the black male described above. He was last seen in the Loogootee area near Pizza Junction after a vehicle pursuit and crash. He is considered to be armed and dangerous. If located, do not attempt to approach him, call 911.

Roseanna Phelps on X.com follows the police scanners in the Bowling Green area and she posted a play-by-play. Again, we have ‘t yet been able to verify these details, so we’re presenting them as is below.

Having read through the different reports, the two Corvettes stolen were painted in Sebring Orange and Arctic White. The White ZR1 was recovered in Bowling Green, and a Michigan man in a black Cadillac has been detained as part of the pursuit. She mentions at one point that speeds from the Orange Corvette reached 180 MPH which again seems to confirm that they were ZR1s that were taken.

  1. I sure would like to purchase that stolen car at a discount as a recovered car. Any helpful suggestions?

  2. I don’t blame them. GM is producing their products so slowly that this may well be the best way to acquire one!

  4. Hey GM, now you know what it’s like when your customers cars are so easily stolen. Would be appreciated if you designed your products’ security and ignition features better.

  6. How do cars get stolen from the assembly plant? What kind of security protocols are in place? Someone needs to be accountable. This isn’t Kentucky……oh wait, it is!

  7. So the usual suspects then? You would figure that after the last stolen cars incident at the Bowling Green storage yard, GM would have changed their security measures but apparently not. Believe me, once the word gets out about how easy it is and the procedure on how to steal new Corvettes, theives will continue to do so regularly.

  9. I don’t understand why anyone could steal a car from a factory. No security personnel? Inadequate security monitoring? Incomprehensible.

  10. Why not just work for one like everyone else? You will appreciate it more as time goes on.

    No value? Go to college and get a degree that will pay you well (Engineering/Business) and most likely get a signing bonus ($10,000 to $50.000). Use the signing bonus for your down payment on the C8 Corvette of your choice.

    And you will demonstrate honesty and integrity.

  11. A. It is easier to steal from an anonymous, large multinational corporation, than from an individual, easier to steal from someone who seems well-endowed and has so much more.
    B. So steal out of a need for excitement, for the thrill of it. One wonders if the large thefts of money in the stock market-inside trading by people probably already have large amounts of money-are motivated by thinking of this kind?
