A grand jury last week indicted two men accused of stealing eight new C8 Corvettes awaiting shipment from the General Motors Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Indicted on charges of engaging in organized crime, theft by unlawful taking of property valued at $1 million or more by complicity, and first-degree criminal mischief were Deantae Cortez Walker, 21, and Amarion Nasir Jordan, 22. Walker was also indicted for tampering with physical evidence, third-degree fleeing or evading police, and resisting arrest.

The eight new C8 Corvettes that were valued at a total of $1.2 million were found by authorities at various locations around the city and returned to the Corvette plant.

The investigation began March 22 when the Warren County Sheriff’s Office asked the Bowling Green Police Department to come to a Plano Road apartment complex after a caller told 911 that a man had driven into the parking lot in a new Corvette with the sticker still on the windshield.

Thus began an investigation by police that located five of the stolen Corvettes, and the other three cars were found after a transport driver tipped authorities that two suspicious men wanted him to transport the vehicles.

“While jail staff was starting the process of getting Walker lodged he made the statement ‘if I would have made it back to Michigan I would have been paid big,'” a police report said.

Earlier testimony by Bowling Green police revealed that a group of eight men had driven the cars off the parking lot at the Corvette plant after cutting through a fence and using key fobs inside each of them.
