The owner of this 1979 Corvette coupe admits his car is “not perfect” but says it’s nevertheless a “very fun solid C3.”
Unfortunately, he faces the same dilemma as many other enthusiasts: He can’t keep all of his “toys” and needs space to tackle his next project.
Now, he’s put this black over Oyster leather beauty up for sale for $16,500 on Craigslist out of Superior, Colorado, northwest of Denver.
With Chevy producing a still-record number of Corvettes during the ’79 model year, this car obviously isn’t rare, being one of 53,807 built, but that doesn’t make it any less desirable, especially considering all the work done by the current owner, who says it has 58,000 unverified miles.
Most impressive of all those updates is the numbers-matching 350 L82 V8 engine that’s been rebuilt with photos showing the work in progress and receipts available. Enthusiasts will furthermore be glad to hear that it’s mated to a Borg-Warner T10 four-speed manual transmission and has a rebuilt 3.55 Positraction rear end.
Other updates include brand new 255/60/15 Cooper Cobra tires, recent brakes and shocks, rebuilt front end and new trailing arms, a “big” aluminum radiator with mechanical and factory electric fans that leave it running “nice and cool,” and a free flow dual exhaust system with catalytic converters smog equipment intact.
The black paint is believed to be original, which can be a good thing or a bad. With that color, though, we’d be shocked if there aren’t multiple chips, scratches, and swirl marks after all these years.
Purchased new from the legendary Yenko Chevrolet at their McMurray, Pennsylvania location, the car showed an original MSRP of $13,556.23 – with $956 worth of options, including $595 for the L82 engine and $265 for front and rear spoilers that had made their debut on the ’78 Pace Car.

It’s a beauty but I guarantee if that’s original black paint it will be full of flaws.
