Everyone seems to be weighing in on the new 2026 Corvette ZR1X, including YouTuber Doug DeMuro & Friends. Count them among the ranks of those thoroughly impressed with this “pretty insane” car.

In a new video, Doug gives his thoughts on Chevy’s ultimate variant of the mid-engine C8 and says that the 1,250-horsepower ZR1X definitely lands the Corvette in supercar territory. “I mean, it’s kind of hard to deny at this point,” he says, “at over 200 grand and 1,250 horsepower…”

Doug clearly believes Chevy was right years ago when they realized that the front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout of the first seven generations of Corvettes had reached a performance peak and that the way to head instead, the only sensible way, was to a mid-engine format.

“This car and the ZR1 are such proof of exactly what they were talking about,” Doug says. “Like, you were never going to make a 1,250-horsepower C7 … but with mid-engine and all-wheel drive and with the hybrid system powering the front wheels, you actually have the ability to do that, which is why a lot of the craziest powerful cars are mid-engine. This is the Corvette of the Corvettes.”

The guys say Chevy dealers “must be thrilled” to have a “true halo product in a way that the Corvette hasn’t been for a bit,” but then they point that since the ZR1s and ZR1Xs are already sold out (we’re not sure if that’s the case or not), those dealers would be more thrilled if there was a dramatic shift in the market demand for EVs.

Still, Doug & Friends can’t think of another gasoline-powered car that can match the performance of the ZR1X, not even cars that cost double the expected price of around $200,000 for the new Chevy. It’s enough to make one of Doug’s friends turn into actual liquid, they joke.
