Corvettes for Sale: 23K-Mile 1968 Corvette with an L71 427/435 V8 on BaT

Time has certainly been kind to the styling of the C3 Corvette, with many enthusiasts still in love with the Coke bottle curves of the fenders.

It all started 57 years ago with the introduction of the 1968 Corvette, and bidding has just opened on this 1968 coupe said to have received a new paint job in its original shade of Safari Yellow about 20 years ago.

This first-year C3 is being offered on Bring a Trailer for the next seven days.

While it’s not perfect cosmetically, with various paint imperfections pointed out in the extensive photo gallery, this Stingray still remains an attractive example in more ways than one.

Enthusiasts will be especially thrilled to see the L71 427/435 horsepower V8 engine with three two-barrel carburetors and an aluminum intake, mated to a four-speed manual transmission. An MSD distributor and ignition coil have been added. Only 2,898 L71s were built out of a total run of 28,566, with the optional engine adding $437.10 to the base price of $4,663.

Other features include a Custom Autosound stereo radio, dual exhausts, retractable headlights, removable T-top roof panels, power four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, 15-inch Rally wheels, and of course the beautiful chrome bumpers front and rear.

The black interior shows well, with the seat covers, door panels, dash, and console still in good condition.

I’ve always preferred the look of the ’69 over the ’68, for the simple addition of the Stingray emblem above the front fender vents. Do you feel that way, too?

  1. I’m with ya on preferring the 69 over the 68 but they are both very desirable Corvettes to own.
